Another day, another school. Who's ready to take on Prototype!? :)

Aaron's an EM in SC. I have no idea how this prototype stuff works, so I'm learning with you all here. :)

I do know that the first four weeks are like 7a-7p and then its all crazy 12 hour shifts from there...

Anyone else have a sailor in this class? :)

Thanks, Dana! :)
I'll be sure to read these... As soon as I finish the 3 economics chapters that are due Wednesday. :P

Dana- Thanks so much for those links! Once I started reading them, I realized that I had read them before, but I read them more thoroughly this time around since he's actually starting!

I'm already dreading these 12 hour shifts... :/

Hey Em - When does Prototype Class 1101 start?  My son is in Power School now - due to graduate in August.  He seems to think that his grad hold time is going to be very long.  Aaron graduated in April, correct? Let me know what you have heard.  (PS good luck on Econ.)

MM Holds after Power School ( and maybe A school as well ).

My understanding, based on limited information, is that the Fleet is experiencing, or anticipating, critical shortages of Nuke ETs and/or Nuke EMs.

This, in turn, has resulted in:

1. A larger percentage of Nuke Recruits, during Boot Camp,  being directed into the Nuke ET A School, and/or the Nuke EM A school,  than is traditional, and,

2. MMs ( some at least ) being placed on much longer holds after A-School and before Prototype so that more ETs and/or  EMs can be pushed through Prototype and on to the fleet.  I believe I have read that some MMs are being sent to GA for extended periods of hold.

Again, this is based on limited information, but it does appear to agree with what appears to be  happening with some MM holds.  If this is what is going on it will end at some point once the critical shortages have been addressed.

Started Today!! AHHHHHH.

Aaron's an EM... Seems like the max grad hold time for them is 2 months. But Aaron just had 2 weeks of leave and then he started...

MMs are going to be long! Some of the MMs who are starting today in Aaron's class graduated Power School in December.

Aaron's old roomie was an MM who graduated P.S. the same time he did... He was told 2 months minimum. Most likely around 8!!

Thanks for the info!  It's a great help!

Hi Dana, thanks so much for the blogs - I read through them ALL, comments, everything.  Seems with each new thing looming before me (and my sailor) I just can't get enough information.  So, thanks for sharing.

Emily, maybe you shouldn't read about Prototype - it's not too encouraging about their schedules and everything.  Those poor guys, what they have to go through.  But, that's why they are part of this elite group, right?  They have what it takes to do it.

Definitely not encouraging. And I've heard nothing about it from other SO's except "it sucks" or "it was horrible" or "the hours were terrible"
Oh well. A few more months and he's out to the fleet!

But not before he gets .... I've heard ... 30 days of leave before heading out to fleet.  Is that what you have heard as well, Emily?  Any ideas on that one?

Yup. That's what I've heard, too. We'll see how the timing works out. I have my fingers crossed (all of them) that his ship isn't leaving on deployment as soon as he gets there... Because that would just be terrible timing with Christmas. :(
My son is in New York and really happy to be out of SC. Me? I loved the south and wanted to stay for a lot longer - we live in Oregon.  He texted earlier this week with a very brief "pray for me - stress". Then today said everything is great and he was excited to go see a movie and relax. He said Proto was a lot more laid back than Power but that's just the first week. Time will tell.
