My son's PIR is November 10th, so he will only be in Goose Creek for a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving.  If we were to visit him for Thanksgiving, how much time could he spend with us?

Also, what happens at Christmastime?

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.  I'm trying to make plans to see him as much as possible, especially on holidays, and we have a pretty big family (he's one of 5 kids) to cart around and plan for.

Hello!  My son PIR'd November 8th two years ago and he left for GC that Monday - he was able to come home for Thanksgiving - we live in Ohio so he had to get special dispensation (my word - not his) to come home.  He also came home for Christmas (about 12 days I think) because the school closed down for Christmas.  Both times we had to wait until the last minute to purchase his plane tickets because you don't want to get those until he is sure he is able to come home.  Hope that helps!

That certainly gets my hopes up.  Thanks!
Wendy! Where at in Ohio are you from!?
I'm from Ohio, too! A little bit further south than Lima!

My son said at his briefing yesterday that school can let out 12-23-1-3 , we plan on going up for thanksgiving

and he classes up on Tuesday.  Cant wait to see him it has been forever!

If he is in Phase 1 he will have curfew each night at midnight regardless of if he has school the next day or not.  He's not allowed out of his room till 5 am.  He may not even have classed up yet so may have jobs to do during the week and only get Sat. and Sun off.  I'm a pretty new Nuke mom so my info about holidays may not be correct.

He must be phase 1 and his class starts Tuesday. By ThX-giving he will have been there 9 weeks if you count from his initial arrival date of sept 21.

So since we plan on going up for T-Day were hoping he can spend the night with us.

Im totally "Green" as well.  Thanks Haps for replying.

I am also waiting for my son Class 1137 mt to tell me the exact date. I know they are off Thanksgiving week from Wed to Sunday. For Christmas off, I was told one group is off 10 days prior to Christmas and one group after Christmas to New Year. Why they wait the last minute to tell you?? I am not sure but knowing how the Federal govt works REACTIVELY to most situations this is the system we have to get used to??? Sadly it will cost us all a lot of money to plan and buy plane tickets!!!! That is why the federal govt is wasteful with our resources. I wish and pray some officer will read this and make positive changes!

I agree PraiseGod, this last minute scheduling really hits the wallet.  My son mentioned he gets a discount on flying but that is from the top rates & at Holiday times we all know its hard to catch a bargain let alone pay the xtra for cancellation fees.

Surely they will give them heads up on whom gets what portion? But then again your right it is the Goverment.

As much as i hate driving on roads at Holiday times i will buzz up there and get him if need be,  its about 7-8 hour drive for us but i will know better when we go for Thanksgiving day.

My son is graduating Dec 2 so he will have a new supervisor after that. That means he will not know till then what group / date he takes vacation. Anyone there going to this graduation date???

Yes, I am going to the Dec 2nd grad.  Are you?

Yes, I already have the ticket and hotel...

Can someone please give me address again for my son who just arrived yesterday?
