Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Cell phone reception in Charleston?
SR son to grad boot Feb 3 and heading to SC. He wants to get set up with a NEW phone the day of grad. Does Verizon work well in the nuke school area? Or should we go with another provider? He's thinking iphone.

I have Sprint service and have had nothing but good reception since my son arrived in GC in August. He is now getting ready to start Power school. He doesn't have an I phone but Sprint does have them. I hear so many people say how bad the reception is with their service. Have him ask aroung to all his friends to see what service they have and how they like it.

My son has the new iphone, and has had the Droid and Droid 2. He has had mixed reception in her room for the last 14 months, but hey, the internet works great an Skype is awesome. He usually calls as he's walking to Subway or going to his car, or puts me on speaker phone as he's driving, so that we don't get cut off. He actually hasn't called from his room in quite some time, but I have heard mixed stuff from everyone. Those buildings are old, and all concrete. OH, just beware, they can't walk and talk on their phone when they first get there and while they are in uniform. That can happen after they phase up in a few weeks.

My son still has his AT&T service and mentioned that he always calls from outside. His reception the room only works when he "squishes the phone to his ear and then puts his head against the window". Now he has wireless and a skype account so he's been loving that.
