My husband had a different experience. He went to INDOC first which is cleaning and stuff like that. He did that for about 3 weeks. They move you into the BEQ right away and assign you bedding and all that jazz. Then they wait for you to class up, it is different for everyone. There are phases, 3 of them. 1st is you cannot do anything--wear uniform at all times, curfew is at midnight basically, can't drive, can't leave base except on the weekends if you are in INDOC, cannot put in leave chits to stay out overnight at all until you are phase 3, phase 2 you are allowed to drive and you can wear civis off base only and still no over nights, and phase 3-you can wear civis on base and you can stay out overnight until Sunday night...usually INDOC lasts about a week at most, so my husbands case was more unusual. They can call you but it is after they are done cleaning and they don't have cell phones in class. So they can't reach you until after they are done with work basically. And that is about it. And things stay like that until they marry or when they are done with Power school and they make them move out. They have 2 "big" graduations, one for A school and one for Power school, your son will have invitations he will mail out in advance to let you know. The big, big one is the Power school one. I hope this helps some, and good luck to you and your son!

They do what they call class up.. which if he is going with the rest of the nukes in BC he will be classed up asap. they do briefs the first week then they actually start school. everything is pretty laid back there as far as liberty times go. when he gets there you will get to hear from him that day if he has a phone

can someone tell me what they do when they first get to base?My son leaves today to go and I was just wondering what they do when they arrive at 9pm.Does it take like a week to get started in school?

Wowzer, I didn't think the shower item comment would be such a topic....

Anyway, as far as cell phone stuff goes, no they don't use can't use it much, it can't be taken into the rickover. But it sure helps if you are long distance and they don't have access to phones other than their own. You can make local calls from the Bowman and stuff like that but nothing out of area code. Hope that helps. Happy New Years.

Ok, that's great they have somewhere to lock stuff up! Thanks!  What would your advice be on the smart phone? Do they have enough time to use it to make it worth it, or should we just keep him on a regular phone until school is finished, or he moves out of the beq, etc?

When my son was home I asked him about the shower items and he laughed.  They share a bathroom with their roomate and two suite mates.  He has not had this experience since the guilty "pool" would be small.  He did say if you were dumb enough to leave your clothes detergent out it wouldn't be there when you went back.  He also said they have a locked armoire for their things.

In school he cant bring anything because everything is so confidential.. He can only bring a approved calc. if they catch you with  a phone they do a massive search on your phone, clear everything off your phone and you dont get it back for days.

as far as things getting stolen.. I suggest that shower items you take when you go in and bring back when you leave. Idk about everyone but my bf has suite mates... so its 4 guys share a shower and thats it. But as far as other stuff they have locks on their drawers to put stuff in... same with the closet but the closet is shared with a roommate.

Is it just shower items that are lifted or are there problems with other items being taken as well?  like laptops...etc.

Also, does anyone know if they are allowed to have cell phones on them most of the day or if they must leave them in their rooms for most of the day?  My boyfriend wants to get a smartphone, but we don't see the point in paying for an internet plan on the phone if he doesn't have access to it 75% of the time!  Any advice would be appreciated!

I am sure they could have a desktop but there is not a lot of space in the rooms so laptop would work better.
