Carly - if he's married, its much easier. it's not like the single guy phases who have to wear their uniform ALL THE TIME. married guys have the luxury of lounging around at home in civilian clothes aka pajamas :)

RaeBear - he picks the house (aka they assign him a house) before you come down. Doing a DITY move or a navy move doesnt affect it since the house is already picked out and technically his BAH is going to that now instead of the BEQs. I'm not sure about the children thing since I dont have any, but we have a three bedroom and it's just us! No paperwork that you can do, he has to do everything. They will let him know at indoc.

Victoria - from what I know, its based on weight. They are paid a percentage of what the government would have paid to arrange the shipping. The advantage for you occurs when you can move your goods cheaply, since the government will pay the same amount regardless of how much the employee spends on the move. It is possible, with careful planning, you make a nice profit. It's not nearly as good as it USED to be (used to be called a DITY move, now a PPM move..Personally Procured Move Program).

Here are some tips:

Thank you. I have one last question... Will he pick the house before he comes to move them or will that be done after the move happens? How does doing a DITY move affect any of this? Does anyone know what floor plan they would get with a child - or is it still the 2 bedroom one? Is there any paperwork that could be started now to make the process easier?

Check the discussion forum...it explains the length of the phases...of course it can be longer.

RaeBear- thw different nuke rates aren't taken into account in moving spouses. because all of the rates have at least 1 full year of training, they all can move at the beginning of A School

Carly- the Phases last about a month for EMs and ETs it might be faster for MMs. He can always put a chit in for overnight liberty, but it doesnt mean it will be approved,

Dana, yes that does help! Aaron won't graduate from RTC until 10/29 so I don't know how much freedom he will have, but at least I will be on base so that should make it easy for him. Do you know how quickly they move through the phases when they first get there?

Do you (or anyone else) know if the different Nuke rates affect when they move their Spouses? For instance, if the A school is only 3 months does that mean A school will need to be completed and the move will happen during the next phase of the Nuclear Pipeline? I'm just trying to work out a timeline.... <3

Thanks!

RaeBear, As soon as your son arrives in Goose Creek he will attend a housing briefing then will go to get his wife and move her to Goose Creek. Timing depends on when he arrives as the briefings only happen on a certain day or maybe two. The he will get something like one day for every 350 miles plus 2 (trying to remember from past reading this site). He will start A School after he gets back. If I've remembered wrong I'm sure someone will correct this.

Carly Ship 7, last year my son got Thanksgiving day off and Friday. He went with his roommate to Florida for the holiday as we are in California. They left on Wednesday evening or early afternoon and had to be back by noon on Sunday as they almost always have homework to begin the day before classes start on Monday. I hope this helps.

Hello everyone! I have a question since I am very new to the Navy lifestyle. I am currently making plans to visit my boyfriend for Thanksgiving since he won't be able to come home. I am already booking one of the Foster Creek Villas and am currently looking for a flight. I was wondering, how much time do they get off for Thanksgiving while in school? I am hoping he will get Thanksgiving off, but what about the Friday and weekends? If anyone has any information on this I would be most appreciative! Thank you :)

What is the policy of moving spouses out? If the SR is a MM can a spouse move out with him or do they have to wait until after A school is over? If they can move during A school what is the timeline? How soon after the SR reports to Nuke School does the moving process begin?
