Hey cj'sred it will not be cheap to move, but the Navy will advance him some money to help get you guys out there. He will be able to take leave and fly home and help you drive. Cheapo air is not a bad place to start looking for tickets at a good price. We moved from Or to SC when my DH joined. If you need any help I can try to answer any questions you have. I will advise you that you will be flying him home about a week after he graduates from RTC so keep that in mind if you are tight on money. I didn't go to boot camp graduation cause I knew we would never be able to afford to move if I did.

I have a question about Paternity leave. Is it possible to take Paternity leave in conjunction with the time a Sailor gets for the movement of his family? As in, he supposedly gets 1 day for every 350 miles away from Charleston, S.C. he is moving from plus... 1-2 days. Can he have his paternity leave tacked on to the back of that? I would assume that would allow for him to just start A School when he returns to Charleston S.C. and thus, will not miss anything.

If you can't answer it... do you know anywhere I can call to ask? It is really important as it is the only conceivable way I can see for him to be present at the birth. And since I am now unable to attend his PIR because my pregnancy is being complicated I am afraid. :\ Any help you can give would be appreciated.

i've heard that when the Navy moves you, it takes a long time. we moved ourselves. you get reimbursed when you move yourself, based on the weight of your truck full and empty, and where you stay, and where you are coming from. we actually made money by moving and i know we aren't the only ones who've made money off the move either. ive heard stories about other people making money on it too.

AND we've been in Goose Creek for about a week, its really nice :] but i hope i meet some friends soon, its pretty lonely with my husband being gone all day and not knowing ANYONE

NidDAlouette - when the Navy moved you did you get your stuff fairly quickly? There was one person who said it took like a month to get their stuff after the Navy moved them, that would be horrible! I guess there is always good and bad stories

Are you guys going to move yourselves or is the Navy doing it for you? I've been trying to decide what we should do, my husband's PIR is 10/8 and we will be moving from Virginia to Goose Creek. I can't wait! So far it seems like most people vote for the DITY move..

Hi everyone, I am new to this group. I husband's PIR is on 10/8 then we will be moving down to Goose Creek/Charleston SC area for his Nuke schooling. Can someone give me an idea of how this all works? After he gets down there, how long will it take before I can move down there with him? Is it better for the Navy to move you or to move yourself? Thanks everyone!
