We're @ 1 week - he had his 7 day Exec yesterday.  Bittersweet time - anxious about him going & excited that he will begin working towards his adult life.  jenb - this kid hasn't done that, but my 1st son (now 30) sure did - as it got closer for him to leave, we saw him less and less (He did not join the military though).  I remember feeling as if he was separating himself on purpose...

Seems like once we got to the 30 day mark, time flew .  I'll let you all know how successful I was @ not falling apart @ MEPPS :(

RG/social, I hear ya, my count is 26 days... my son is spending lots of time with his friends, not so much family though... I wonder if he is trying to distance himself to make it easier on him. He has been living with my cousin this summer and we see less andless of him, typically he only goes a week before he misses us and comes around, but I wonder if hes preparing himself... this time is going way too quick....

Twenty-seven days! We haven't planned any parties, but my son has been spending as much time as possible with his 17year-old brother, and whatever friends of his that are still local. He has volunteered with his church's youth group for the last four years and this is his last night playing music for them.  We have gotten a lot of the checklist stuff done-- except the POA stuff. He is finally getting around to selling most of his rock band equipment...wow is this getting close!

Thanks Goldwingmom - hoping we'll all get thru this with a strong healthy Sailor at the other end as well as the ability to be a strong Navy family at our end.  Sure will miss this Boy, he is our baby and 1 of the 2 lights of my life. He signed up in April & I remember thinking this da was SO far away.  Now that it's almost here, the time is zipping by.  He has been home ALOT in the last couple weeks, so I guess he's also feeling the pressure of not seeing us for a long while after he ships.  We will go to PIR, but he will leave the next day for Florida.  We're in upstate NY, so it will be a bit before we see him again :(  My oldest son is local, but married & busy.  Life will sure be different ....

my son has his last Qnchors Aweigh Party this week end! We did a family one and he is doing a couple of friends ones. he wants to spend his last week here visiting family that he won't see for a while. He flies out Oct 1 from Dallas. I think he said there would be one more recruite flying with him. I hope I will be strong, he is excited to be almost gone. He swore in last Dec. so he's waited a long time. I don't feel anymore prepared though thank if I just learned he was leaving, how do you prepare for that???? I am excited, proud, and scared all at the same time. He's my baby also. Let's stay in touch and help each other through the next 2 months. God bless you and your recruite!

Hello Cindy. My 18 year old son is set to leave to GL on 10/22 as well. He has been a Depper since Feb, so we have had time to prepare, haha, as best as we can. But now that its 6 weeks away, Im starting to get a little apprehensive. What program is your son going into? Mine.. Nuke! Glad to have this site to have other moms around to talk to about this experience.
