Thanks everyone for your input. Yes, things are ever-changing here, as his start date got moved up so as to not interfere with Christmas (or so they say!). I'm not even thinking about this any more -- when we get the letter, THEN we'll know!
Hi All;
Just checking in, I can hardly believe that's its been four years for some of us. Any updates? For all of the new moms, welcome to October Boot Camp Family.
Gen
We've started our count down to BC - 46 days now. I'm starting to get my list together of things to do the last month, and stuff to put into a small pouch for him to keep with him (stamps, phone cards, etc). I've begun to start running through all his favorite meals, putting menus together weekly. Gives me something to do so I feel like I'm doing something - hope that makes sense. Is anyone else starting to feel anxious? Really looking forward to planning our PIR trip. Hubby asked me last night where I wanted to spend Thanksgiving - poor thing didn't realize those plans are on hold till we have our PIR date. His expression was just too funny when I asked if he's like to go to Great Lakes.
Thanks for the info everyone! Just have to keep working on that flexibility thing!
Hi Joniana - my son left on 10/23/12 for boot camp and had his PIR on 12/21/12. They say to count 9 Fridays.....if you go with that your son should PIR on 12/20/13. Of course that could change - he could end up in a "push" division and his PIR could be a week earlier. I know exactly how you are feeling - trying to figure out Christmas! The only "for sure" thing is when you get that first letter from BC with the actual PIR date :) Like you said - be prepared to be flexible - that and "hurry up and wait!". LOL
LllamaMama - my son was in BC for Thanksgiving - there was never any mention of us spending Thanksgiving with him - but we are from California so it wasn't really an option. I do know that some SR's did get to have Thanksgiving with other families but I don't know what criteria there is for that. Sorry I can't help on that one!
Hello Fellow October Moms,
My son is scheduled to leave 10/23. Am stymied about when PIR might occur since Christmas is on a Wednesday this year. Any experienced folks have any toughts on this? Guess we need to learn to be flexible, but it's challenging!
Thanks!
Hello All - Just joined and am a complete NEWBIE and have had no experience with the military at all. My son has been given a ship date for October 1, 2013. He then goes to BUDS pre-qual or prep school (I think its also A school) so trying to get up to speed fast fast fast. He's already hooked up with another DEPPER locally who is going at the same time, so at least he's got a bud to hang with at PST and train with prior to shipping out. Looking forward to getting to know everyone - it will be so cool to meet some of you at Graduation too.
Ship date for my son is 10/3/13 -seems like a long time from now, but I bet it will fly by quickly, just like the last 21 years. Looking forward to "meeting" other Oct Moms.
Thanks Kendrasue. It is quiet for sure, and reading everyone elses posts I am sure it will get busier once we get closer to October.
