Susan,
I forgot - even tho we walked on base instead of driving we still had to have our ID to get in and went through an inspection of our purses, camera cases and anything else we were carrying. It wasn't long tho'.

Susan Miga,
When we went to my daughter's PIR we stayed at the Sleep Inn in Lake Bluff. Address is: 3250 Bittersweet Ave Lake Bluff, IL 60044
It was a nice place and they provided a shuttle that picked us up out front of the hotel, drove past the long line waiting to get in and dropped us off across the street from the main gate. We crossed the street (at the traffic light) and walked on the base. The drill hall for graduation was about a block from the main gate so the walk wasn't bad at all even in a light drizzle. After PIR we hooked up with our sailor and walked back out to the main gate where the shuttle was parked and waiting (I think they wait until 11:00 or so - they told us that morning). Anyway, we got in and they drove us back to the hotel. We hung around the hotel for a while and then went to the mall. When you get your graduation info it should tell you if your sailor is grad and go or not. If not, then you most likely will have time to spend with your sailor. They just have to go back to their barracks by a certain time each night. If they are grad and go you might have a couple hours to visit but it will be after they go back to their barracks and pack up to leave. Then they wait until the bus comes to pick them up.
Hope that helps!!!!

Gosh,
It is so nice to see so many Mom's on this group. I hope I remember everyone -
Colleen, Margi, and Mary - - CONGRATULATIONS on all our new sailors!!! How exciting!!
Margi, my son did 4 years and now is starting a new enlistment and my daughter has been in since last July. I've only seen my daughter twice and my son several times over the years but I still get all teary eyed when it's time to say goodby!! Julie is right - you just learn to deal with it better!!

As far as lunch, the weekends are not the best for me. My hubby only comes home on weekends but if that turns out to be the best time for everyone else I'll work something out!!! I am so looking forward to getting to meet other Navy Moms!!!

Colleen,
Have a happy and safe trip!!! Enjoy PIR and along with those tissues, don't forget the camera!!!!

Is it time to plan another lunch? I'll be leaving this Ohio area in about 3 weeks so it might be nice to try to get together again. Welcome Mary - I used to live in Mentor and worked in Painesville - right across the street from the jail!!!!!
