We're starting to save our pennies right now. My husband was stationed there in the 60's and would love to go back. He really enjoyed the time he was there.

stacoul, Okinawa! That's great! Do you think you might manage to visit him sometime in the next 3 years?

I do love how all of our sailors are off doing something different. Sure, I'm following in the Nuke Moms group, but I really like to hear about what the other sailors are doing.

Good morning! My son received his orders before coming home and didn't share with me until yesterday, after he went back. He's going to Okinawa for 3 years and I guess he was afraid I'd be upset. I couldn't be happier and he is,too. He graduates from Corp school mid November.

lol Michimom, I know exactly how you feel. They sent my sailor from one person to another, none of them knowing what they were supposed to do with her. The next morning the chief still didn't know what to do so he asked if she had had breakfast yet and she said, no chief, and he said well go get some chow and maybe we will have it figured out by the time you get back. Poor kid had never been to that base before and didn't know where anything was including the mess hall. She called me in tears at 6 am and I asked her why she didn't ask someone where it was and she said she didn't want to appear dumb.... So she drove off base and went to McDonald's lol for a chicken biscuit. They gave her 4 days off for the weekend and I hope they know something by tomorrow morning lol. Well at least they didn't loose her. :-)

Yes, rory'smom, it was a special time together. Sad and happy together.

Lala, you are so talented! Love it!!

Came home from work to a message from someone down at Goose Creek. They couldn't find my son--who had arrived there yesterday afternoon! This message was followed by one a little later from my son, saying that there was a mix-up, and they "forgot" where he was. He was where they told him to be. I'm not sure whether to smile or wonder if they know what's going on at all. And these are the people in charge of my son!? :)

Hello, all! Had a very busy weekend, of course. Our son arrived around midnight Friday a.m., so he was here for the visitation on Friday and funeral on Saturday. I guess I would say it all went well--sad, but heartwarming with lots of friends and family present. (Too bad it takes a funeral to get so much family together.) After the funeral luncheon, a lot of us got together at my sister's and hung out and watched the Big Game (Michigan-Michigan State--HUGE rivalry). Could tell our sailor enjoyed hanging out with his cousins. He spent the night with a couple of friends (playing cards and video games practically all night), then we hung out with him on Sunday. He flew out today. We probably won't see him until Christmas. :(

Several relatives mentioned how mature our sailor seems (but he'll always be my "little" boy). He arrived in his dress whites (he said they start wearing dress blues in SC Nov. 1, but I know this weekend's graduates wore their dress blues), and wore his dress blues for the funeral home and the church. He hates the dress blue pants--too many buttons and laces in the back. Takes too long to get them on and off. :) His aunt said it must have been a female who designed them, so the guys could get a taste of what the women have had to go through (and sometimes still go through!) with buttons and lacing all these years. LOL

Good morning, ladies. I heard from my son last night and he's supposed to be flying in sometime tonight. I'm trying not to think about it, just in case he doesn't end up coming. I haven't seen him since PIR and can hardly contain myself. Of course I work all week-end, but I'm sure he has plenty of people to see and things to do. Have a great week-end, all!!
