Michimom...this has been some kind of year for you, hasn't it? God bless you and your family! You have been thru so much...as Lala said, don't be guilty one bit for your emotions! Your dad would understand what you are going thru!

Joella...what a week you have been thru also. Praying for you also for comfort and peace in your loss...it is so hard when a young person passes...

Lala...so happy to see the smiling face of your sailor! My heart was full of pride just seeing her! I can imagine how you feel!

Michimom- I am again so sorry for your loss but I am also happy you get to see your sailor. Enjoy your visit guilt free. I am sure your dad would have wanted it that way. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Well, I think this will be an emotional week+ for us. Just got confirmation from my son that he will be here tomorrow (well, his flight will arrive at 11:50 p.m., so we may not see him until Friday, technically) and will not fly out until Monday, since it's a holiday! He will be set back a week, maybe two at the most, but it was up to him. He said his chief convinced him to come for the wake on Friday, and I can't say I'm unhappy about that.

I feel guilty that I am so happy to see my son, but well, that's the way it is. He'll have his dress blues for the funeral and this will be the first time we see him in his dress uniform, since he was in his peanut butters when we visited him.

So I guess I'm full of sadness and happiness at the same time. And I thought boot camp was an emotional roller coaster!

Dustin's girl, I am sorry for your loss. I suppose this is a time for losses. We lost my dear father over the weekend, and, while we are mourning him deeply, he was quite ill recently, and we know he is now pain-free and in peace. I do think that it is much harder to take when it is a young person you are mourning.

My son is getting emergency leave to come in for the funeral, and we are indeed very happy to be seeing him--just wish it were under different circumstances. We planned my dad's funeral for the weekend, partly so our son would not be delayed any further--he will leave Friday late afternoon or early evening, and is hoping to not have to return until Monday (Columbus Day). (The date was also picked so other family members won't have to miss school or work, so he wasn't the only one considered.) After his delay in boot camp, we REALLY did not want him to miss his A-school classes, which start on Tuesday. We told him that it wasn't necessary for him to come if it would set him back, but he insisted and said he would come no matter what. Sweet boy--reminds me of his grandpa in that respect!

I tried to get her in the dress blues for pics but she wouldn't do it lol. Maybe next time. I haven't even seen her in them except for the Boot camp pics and they were not very good. And who really uses those cardboard frames? Maybe some do, I don't know. You should be able to take those off and not pay for them. I can't believe how fast this Navy track is for my sailor. She will be at her first duty station by Christmas and maybe even by Thanksgiving.

Joella- I am so sorry for your loss. It is always a very sad time when a young person dies. No matter what the circumstances are. I will keep his family and yours as well as all our sailors in my prayers.

Hello all. It's been a little bit since I've come on here but I thought it was time to check in. Lala, that's a beautiful picture. I can't get enough of my sailor in his dress blue's. Those are by far my favorite. :-) I'm afraid yesterday was bad news day for me. On one hand there was a new birth in the family so that was exciting and a blessing. On the other hand there was a death. My cousin Ross was in the air force and all the family knows right now is that he was found dead in his apartment yesterday. I'm still in shock and not sure what to feel at the moment. I talked to his sister for a bit yesterday and she was obviously devastated. I just can't wrap my brain around it. You don't expect a healthy boy in the military to die on home soil. Anyways. I hope the rest of you are doing well. Dustin is half way through his A school and I am getting more and more excited every day for him to come home when he graduates. :-) Take care ladies.

Emma,
No matter how old we get, losing our Daddy hurts and devastates. May you know peace during these days. Your father seemed like a very nice man when we had the opportunity to meet him at PIR. hugs to you.

Good morning queens...thought it was time to check in. I'm starting a new job today and I'm a nervous wreck. I'll be a music therapist on a geriatric psych unit. Haven't done the therapy thing for 5 years, as jobs are scarce where we live. My son is 2/3 of the way through A school for corpsmen and I'm hoping he gets approved to come home this week-end. Really missing him alot lately. Hope everyone is doing well, both queens & sailors!

I agree with rory's mom. It really is nice to hear how the sailors and their families are connecting. Even if we're not seeing our sailors, it is so nice to have some contact and know they're doing well. That, to me, was the most stressful part of boot camp, and I am SO glad that's over. And it's so nice that our sailors are doing what they want to do!
