I am so happy for you and especially for your sailor. I know he must be excited to move on to the next step.

Heard from my son! He should be leaving THU tomorrow for A school in Charleston. Judging by the exclamation points in his text message, he is very happy. LOL Not that I needed that clue. Datewise, it will be exactly two months after his scheduled PIR date. I swear, with all the delay, I'm going to wait to get excited until I hear he's there.

So much is happening for everyone's sailor, but it's great to hear from all the moms/wives/girlfriends whose sailors are doing something different from mine. I do like to hear the big picture of what everyone does in the Navy--well, at least what our sailors are doing.

Same here Allyson. Having him go overseas right away would just....be really hard. And from what I've heard, quite a few rates are being put on hold after they graduate. Which is why I really don't know when Dustin will be home. :-/ And Lala, yes, I talked to Incognito recently. She just celebrated her 50th and her pics looked so darn cute. hehe. She's on facebook if you haven't found her yet.

I know that sometimes there may not be enough orders for everyone so that top students will pick from the available ones. The remaining sailors must wait until orders come in and sometimes they are just assigned to one. It seems to differ between rate and base. Some rates I guess that they dont even look at their wishlist and they dont get to choose, but then again most sound like they do take that wishlist into consideration. I swear they confuse us just to frustrate us. I know Im just hoping and praying my boyfriend ends up in the US for his orders.

I think it has to do with grades no matter what their rate. Highest in class gets first pick. But I have heard from several different people that if they have debt they cannot go overseas. I have heard they can't go if they have a waiver for anything but I think that may depend on what the waiver is for. They have waivers for everything from allergies to speeding tickets to tattoo's lol.

Michimom- your son is very handsome and I know how proud you are and happy you finally got to see him.

Welcome back Lynn, so good to see you on here as well as some others who have been away for a while.

Does anyone hear from Incognito?

Lynne, sounds like things have been happening for you as well as your oldest and youngest sons. I can understand how you feel about the tuba. My son was in marching band and first played the alto sax, then for two years the bari sax. While he wasn't as little as your little guy--he was in in high school--he sure isn't a real hefty guy (tall, though) and it looked funny to see him with this big bari sax. His last year in marching band he switched back to the alto sax, and he said it felt so light! Somehow they manage.

I agree the holidays seem more fun when there are little ones around who are so excited.

well, Look Who's Back In Town! LOL.

I have been MIA, or AWOL or some other navy-speak acronym for being "gone", hehe. Just getting busy with life returning to normal, I suppose, I have not forgotten about the Queens, though! How is everyone doing? Seems from some of the posts, things are moving along quite nicely for most of you and that is nice to see.
Just a bit about what is happening around this neck of the woods...My oldest son is in the middle of making a "music video" for school, OMG. Sounds crazy but funny to see the kinds of things he is shooting and how he will put it all together. He is using a camera that is on loan from the media department...one of these big TV cameras (not sure what they are called)...a few thousand dollars worth of lense and gadgets, lol. He likes the classes he is taking, he does not like the fact that he can not find a job though, So he is running around filming all sorts of things. Whatever keeps him happy and motivated to pursue a good education, right? lol. We just found out that my husband's daughter is moving to Ft Lauderdale, which is about a 2 hour drive from us. She will be here this time next month and we are so excited to have her closer to us! She is the mom to our first grandaughter (yes...I said GRAND DAUGHTER cough, gasp!) So, christmas and holidays will take on refreshing, magical feeling once again with a little one around, we are very excited. I have never met this little one yet, so for me, its twice as exciting...she will be 2 in January, just a cute little pip-squeak! lol
My youngest son has just brought home his midterm grades...can not believe its already mid-term for him. He loves the 7th grade, made the transition from elementary to middle school quite surprisingly well...which reminds me to let the process happen and not try to "make it ok", if you know what I mean, lol. So he is a little guy, 12 yrs old, 52 inches tall, aproximately70 lbs. small. His first year in band and playing an instrument...what does he choose? THE TUBA.
Why???????? I can not even imagine how this is going to go. I flash forward to him having to perhaps play outside or MARCH in a parade...and I want to know...WHO is gonna hold that thing for him??? Again, I have to let it go, LMAO! He's happy and that is all that matters, I have to keep telling myself that!
That's the quick update. Michimom, so happy for you! your son looks wonderful, a handsome young man for sure! Lala, glad you had a good time in Pensacola...There were certain places I used to go for certain foods and such and now I can't remember the names! There was a place downtown, that had the best raw bar for oysters...it was a gazebo off the main restaurant...it was the ONLY place to go and here I am not having a clue what it was called! Another great place on Palofox street to go for drinks...and nothing comes to mind! waaa!
