I am not sure about families going to other countries. You might find the answer on the discussion for where he is in A-school or on the Japan or Italy page. I do know that I heard if they have any waivers for speeding tickets or anything like that they cannot go overseas for their first tour. But I am not sure if that is true. And they get to pick where they go based on what is available for their rate and what their class rank is. The better you do in the class the more choices you have. And the first test in actual A-school core classes is the test that determines your class rank.

So for those that are getting stationed overseas, is that their home base? What if they have families? Can they not go with them? I had heard that families couldn't go to Japan if that's where the guys got stationed. I'm starting to get a little worried now....

Lala, it looks like we might both have eventful weekends next week. Funny how we count the days until something happens for our kids. I hope you have a great visit!

Michimom, glad things are finally happening for him. My daughter is waiting for her orders to drop so she can change flight plans and come home for a few days before c-school. I may get lucky and have her home by next weekend. ;-}

Heard from my son—things are happening! He went to medical and got more shots (ugh!): polio, hepatitis A & B. Tough guy--said he didn't even feel them. He said the people who are on medical hold need to get them. I guess these shots are different from all of those they got at the beginning of BC.

He texted me again later and said he's now just waiting on orders! I'm guessing that means he was declared Fit for Transfer, even though he didn't come out and say that. He was told it might be only a week! Woo hoo!

So just when it is starting to cool off here in the Great Lakes State, he's gonna go to warmer Charleston. This will be his first winter away from the real snow and ice. Wonder how much he'll like it if he's able to come home for Christmas. ;)

An update. Well, somewhat. My son texted me that he "guesses" they're sending him to medical. He's probably gonna be cleared, but then he will probably have to wait on orders. But things are looking good. When I asked (to make sure there was nothing new going on medically!), he said it's to get him "fit for transfer." Even though it looks like he'll have to wait on orders, it's a big step, as he put it.

It sure seems like it is taking forever to clear him medically--when he says he's been feeling back to normal for a good month or so now. I shouldn't complain too much; he's healthy and happy he's been out of RCU and done with BC. Still, he wants to get started with A school! (Hey, at least he's not lazing around and doesn't care, huh?) Baby steps, baby steps.

My daughter wanted to go to japan as well but she got a little homesick and changed her mind lol. Her dss was born there on an air force base. I am sure he is very excited. Good luck to him.

I think if I was able to go for A school grad I would...I would totally take advantage of everything you can with her...if I go in November, it will be 4 months and maybe 5 months if he doesn't come home until Christmas! My sailor just had a friend get his orders...3 years in Japan! Definitely easier to get to P'cola!

I actually would go right now if I could and I am seriously thinking about going down for A-school graduation. I know that it is not a real big deal but hey, any excuse to see my sailor and go to the beach in September is a good excuse lol. I hope you get to go in November. :)
