HiJoella!
Mandy, I'd take the dry heat over this florida humidity and heat!

Hey Joella! Good to see you back :D How about this CA heat, huh?? I can't decide which is worse--the humidity or the scorching dry heat!

News flash:

Just got a phone call from my son, the recovering SR! Woo hoo! This is the first call where we've spoken (a message doesn't count) since his discharge from the hospital. He sounds great and he said he may be graduating as soon as the 13th! Oh, my. I'm not mentally prepared for it to be that soon. OK, that sounds funny, since his PIR was supposed to be 7/23, but I was counting the recovery time plus catch-up time (generously) and came up with the 20th. He's not sure yet, but will let us know asap.

Sounds like he's getting plenty of rest. He'll need it . . .

He mentioned that there was someone else in the RCU who was in the hospital two weeks due to a ruptured appendix and the subsequent infection. Guess I shouldn't complain that he was in for a week.

Hello ladies. It's been a short while. :-) Now that it's been a little over a week, how is everyone doing?

When my husband was in flight school years ago, he also got together with a friend and rented an apartment. We married on the tail end of flight school...We were 23 yrs and we thought we knew it all, lol. Starting out as enlisted or as an ensign, the pay is not that great. Sure, an ensign makes more than an enlisted person, but right out of the starting gate, both pay is low to where it makes living tough if its the only income.

Check out my picture of Alex standing by the Fridge with the giant beef jerky. Perhaps they all raided a fridge!

The smart ones will live on base and save up their money. Alex is already saying he has enough for a car downpayment--thank goodness new phone and a car in the future are the only issues I'm dealing with!. Anyway, when they get to their first job, then they will be assinged housing based on the facilities at the base. If he gets assigned on base housing, he gets no money. And if they have that housing, then they have to take that. I am almost certain, if you reject on base housing, you get BAH/BAQ but not the economy suppliment. If youre married and have to be seperated due to the length of school etc, you used to get seperation pay. I made $2 per day after I got to my tech school since there were no accomadations for married people on the base. Again, the smart ones will go in together, rent a house, and split the rent while pocketing the excess BAQ/BAH (same thing--one is for enlisted the other for officers and I dont remember which is which). I had a buddy who bought a house in SD and used his renters to pay the entire house payment each month!
