Nice to meet you too, t4inparker, yes, he started last week on Tuesday. He had to wait a couple of weeks to class up too. He is actually have to change ships today. I'm not sure of the name of the new ship. They are putting all the OS's on one ship so they are all having to move to the first ever built on base. It has no AC and is not nearly as nice as the one he is leaving. But he says he'll make it. :) This is his second week. But if all the OS's are in a ship together, maybe my son and your son will meet up.
Joshmom- I am counting down the days til graduation. Every little thing worries me like calls for security questions or medical stuff. I will be so happy when he finishes BC and goes on to "A" school. I write him about 3 times a week but the whole family is writing so I hoping that will occupy his free time if there is any. :)
Hi Joshmom - Nice to meet you! Did he get to actually start OS school? Which ship is he staying on? My son says he's on hold until 9/16 so they can get a full class.
Hello - any new Navy moms like me out there that their sailor just graduated (PIR 9/6/13) and is in GL for OS school?
Joshmom, it's been a while since my son graduated A school, but I believe the schools take the last 2 weeks of December off, they shut everything down. My son graduated A school just before the break and was home for Christmas and New Years. Then he went back to GL to receive his duty orders then reported to his ship/base. I don't know if things are pretty much the same, like I said it's been a few years. But as the time gets closer, your son will know with more certainty if he will be able to come home. I hope he can and hope this info helps you as well as others with A school. I treasure the holidays when my son is home more then ever before.
MCEastcoastmom, I am not sure about Christmas as my sailor will hopefully be graduating before Christmas. He did say he has heard they get to come home after A school for I think 14 days before going to their new duty station. It may work out for y'all that he graduates and happens to be home at Christmas time. That would be great. I don't think it will work out for us. It will be a sad Christmas but I need to get used to that. My sailor loves the Navy and for that I am very thankful and grateful. We are very proud of him, as I'm sure you are of your SR also. Keep writing those letters. I wrote my son every day in BC. He said that's what got him through, receiving mail at mail call!
Joshmom-Great thank you. My son thought he would be at GL for like 6 months but was really not sure. So I am guessing that although the class is only 10 weeks he could be on hold for a few more weeks before that. Either way, it is better than 6 months. I just wonder if he will have leave for Christmas and if he does how we make that happen since he may still have to have someone sign him out. I will be there for graduation on 10/11 but not sure i can pull off that trip 2X. :(
@Swanson- my son has been at BC since 8/12. After 2 weeks on a Saturday i got a 10 minute phone call. Still waiting for a personal letter from him. I heard they got to write this past Sunday, beginning of 3rd week. He sounded upbeat on his first phone call but i am sure there was a lot more he didnt tell me. He will be going to A school in GL but i have no idea how long OS A school is. Any idea?
