My son Graduates 8-7-2012 as a OS,then he come's home for 2 weeks(can't wait),then he is off to Maine to be on the Michael Murphy Destroyer. What experience he is going to get & also a Honor to be on that Ship!!!!
Congratulations Tanya on the upcoming PIR date! You will have an amazing time and you'll be so glad to get to hear from your sailor via phone, e-mail, etc, not just by snail mail like now.
thank you christine my son loves everything ive been learning on the site it has helped me and him do the planning and adjusting but well see if everything i learned will help when i see him leave for BC in Jan or will i just break down and forget
Christian learned a lot while working MA but certainly has no desire to pursue a career in law enforcement now. He's just glad to be back to work in his rate.
he was 1 point away from MA
that is really interesting christine, michael wanted MA but took OS instead it would be awesome if he got to do both lol
oh, it's not all charts and radars for OS. My son did a lot of boatswain mate work while waiting for his ship to come back before he reported, then within 2 months he was TDA to MA dept for over 6 months, then his ship went to dry docks and an IA assignment: he went to GTMO as MA for over 10 months. He's finally back with his ship and finally doing his OS....and while all this TDA and IA was going on he studied his butt off and earned OS2. So don't be discouraged if your sailor tells you they have TDA or IA.....it's all part of being in the Navy.
Maybe because he will be their before the ship arrives that's why he has shore duty? He did tell me his mentor is in Virgina & won't be in Hawaii till October.I am so excited for him!!!! Thank you His first order's was to go to Virgina for 1 year then Hawaii, but he received new order's and that can change again.
cathie379.
Just sounds like he'll be beating them to Hawaii. He'll hook up with the ship when it gets there.
Check out the comments under Crew Move Aboard on the ship's FaceBook page.
My son is in A school at GL for Operation Specialist , his order is for the Michael Murphy Destroyer ,after graduation witch is Aug. 8th,he gets to come home for a couple of weeks, then reports to Hawaii for shore Duty. Does that sound right that they are just going to send him to Hawaii?
