Ken-55...thanks for the video link. My son is going to love his new job. It is almost like they created this job for him!
When I click on the USS Anzio link, I just get a blank world map. No additional info. ???
Just checking in and thought I'd contribute a couple of things that might answer a few questions others have. My son's PIR was a year ago. He cut his leave short after A-school because his ship was leaving for a 7 month deployment and he heard it was better to leave with them rather then trying to catch up with them later.
Here's where they went on their deployment:
The other comment that I seem to hear our OS's saying when asked about their jobs is "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you!" I was fortunate enough to be able to join my son's ship for a 2 day Tiger Cruise from Mayport, FL back to Newport, VA for homecoming. We were allowed to join them in "combat" and see what they did. No cameras were allowed BUT the following Navy supplied video is a good representation of what I saw the OS's doing:
Hope that helps!
I watch CNN
lstevens: I heard the same thing on the news!
But I have no information on the USS Vellagulf sorry.
any one have news on the uss vellagulf today? heard the iranian ships are in the med. now.
Dustins Mom: Do you know what he put on his Dream sheet where are his first and Second picks?
He may not end up on such an active Ship like my Daughter is going to be on!
But he will go out they all do, I am not to sure all the ports on the west Coast both of my Children were/are based on the East Coast my son Virgina and my Daughter is going to Florida.
He wanted to see the world so it sounds like he's going to get his wish. I couldn't be happier. Going to miss him like crazy, but am so proud for him.
Dustin's Mom You can look it up and get a general idea what ports they go to,
But they are not allowed to tell you were they are heading.
but if they port and are allowed off the Ship they can call and let you know where they are.
When my Son was out on the 6 month cruse's he could not tell me much untill they got there....and this Ship port's in pretty much the same port's that the Ship my son was on went.
Let's put it this way they are going to see a lot of places!
