Thank you Leese - any suggestions rental place. So far they are pretty pricey
Jamie: I have heard good things about Sarge, but it would probably get quite costly rent a car is the way to go, and also places to visit the Gurnee Mills mall is a great place..Brunswick Zone Fountain Square has great bowling and is close to the base the mall is like 15min away if you own a GPS bring it or get 1 from the car rental place, if the weather is good go to the Navy pier in Chicago but just remember to keep watch of the time no matter where you go.
Amy: we are waiting to find that out, with the holiday today was only her 2nd day to muster so they are still finding stuff out as soon as I know I will inform you all.
Thank you so much Leese. I didn't plan on renting a car but now it looks like I might need one. I was just going to use Sarge
sorry that was for Kaykay and Amy,
She was also told about a 2 month ATT still waiting to hear more about that!
Make sure you hang on to your Gate pass that you get to enter PIR because you will need that to enter the A School Gate also if they let you the whole weekend we had 1 Guard that made us wait at the visitors parking lot like you will have to on PIR day. but all others were good and let us pick her up and drop her off at her Ship.
Jamie: My daughter just PIR this past Friday, She and 3 other shipmates are in holding now A school is 9 weeks not counting the holding after PIR she will have about 1 hour to spend with you on base then she has to go move to A School so from 12 to 330 then she will get Liberty until 9pm they have to be back at their ship by 10pm some guard's will let you drive them to their ship and some wont so to be on the safe side have them there by 9pm because they have a good walk from the gate to the ship, then in the am you can pick them up at 6am-9-9:30pm (no overnights is right)
kaykay - my daughter is also OS - i was told immediately after PIR she will move over to A-School in GL. They will be able to spend time with the family all weekend. (no overnights)
I don't remember precisely how long A school is, but they don't necessarily start immediately. They have to wait for enough to start a new class basically. My son had PIR 8/12/11 and finished A school near the end of October. Then his first full day at Pearl Harbor was on Veterans Day. So it was probably close to 8 weeks of school.
My son stayed there in Great Lakes for his OS school.
