My son didn't get leave between boot camp and A school. He got his leave when A school shut down for the Christmas break and got to come home, but not between boot camp and A school. They'll stay in GL until they ship off to A school location.

Cindy, what's the latest on your daughter? Things getting better in Norfolk? Aren't you going to claim her on your tax return this year one final time?

Okay so they actually have to report prior to getting leave? I thought it was that they finish A-school and they take leave prior to reporting. I am not sure.. Army does it different, I guess.

My fiancee is graduating bootcamp april 2nd, 2010. Does anyone know if she will get leave after her A-school at GL? She told me before she left that her A-school is 13 weeks long and reading through this forum it seems like the school can run 7-12 weeks depending on how fast they can complete their classes. We are working on getting married so I can be put into her orders to move in with her to her next duty station. Any information would help. Thanks!

Tisha, Welcome aboard. If A school is anything like when my son went through it, it's a great wait game before they class up. My son waited over a month because the school was in transition moving to GL, but he got through it, just graduated Dec 09 and is now based in San Diego. Being a CA family, he loves it and we're glad he's close to home. Have a great day, best wishes to your daughter while in BC, it'll fly by yet seem like ages since you've talked or seen her. We're here for you!

Christian is loving San Diego! He's been busy since his arrival a week ago now. He had a 4 day duty free weekend so came home for a quick visit, but he didn't visit with his family, spent most of it with his friends. Oh well, part of letting him grow up, can't keep him in the nest forever. Nor Cal is getting lots and lots of rain, which we need, even saw the sun for about 1/2 hour today, that was nice...now 3 more storms coming in, in as many days....feeling like a duck right now...quack! Have a wonderful week ladies....God bless our sailors, wherever they are stationed. Know that they are stationed where the Navy needs them at this point, may not be where our kids want, but they'll adjust, this will be the first of many adjustments in their Navy careers. God bless All Navy families!

The thing with holds is that you won't know until it's time to class up. Christian graduated 9/25/09 and his class didn't start until after Nov 1. But I do know that while they are on hold you will hear from them almost on a daily basis, when they have liberty. It was great for us! We just took him to the airport this morning to head back to Great Lakes after a wonderful 10 day visit for Christmas and New Years. He'll be there for a short while, he will be based out of San Diego but he won't get to come back home for a few days before going to meet up with his ship (so Cara, ENJOY your time with your daughter). All I know is that this is the Navy and they do everything on their time schedule and while it doesn't make sense to us to see our kids on hold for a month or so, it all works out in the end. God bless our sailors, God bless all Navy families.

Christian received his orders today. He's heading to San Diego to serve on the USS Nimitz. He wanted Norfolk to be closer to his sweetheart, but he's back to CA. I know in time he'll appreciate "being home" and I know his girlfriend will understand that the Navy will put him where they feel he'll do his best, besides, now she'll have a reason to come to CA for a visit. He comes home for Christmas in 9 days after visiting his sweetie for a few days. I'm so proud of him, he's worked really hard in A school and I know he'll do fine once he gets in the fleet.

Congratulations Julz, I know how proud you are of your sailor. My son was also awared OS/QM A School best of the best! Bravo zulu to those who have earned this award. The top 1%! A wonderful achievement and they should be proud of being named so because they've worked extra hard to reap such an award.

Diane, which class is your daughter in? Christian is in class 1050. I don't think they're in same class though, he doesn't recall her name. Christian will be home Dec 23 for the holiday, he's leaving the 18th to visit his sweetheart in SC, as well as spend time with bootcamp buddy and family. Hope this finds you well. Happy holidays!

Hey all...anyone have a kid in Class 1050? He's on the Halsey in Great Lakes. He completes school Dec 18 then home until Jan 2 (via SC to visit his girl). Happy Thanksgiving! Although we can't have our families physcially home right now, they are always home in our hearts. Blessings to all.
