Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

They will have an address for mail that should be posted on the wall somewhere in the ship. Packages will probably get delivered quicker if you send them via postal service (it will not be an apo) rather than ups. The ups pkgs go to a different bldg than regular mail and it is up to those on mail duty to get - my son waited a week after I knew it was delivered to get his I sent that way. And your sons will have to go check to see if they have mail. It isn't handed out like in boot camp.

Mine requested Hawaii or San Diego - Cruiser/Frigate. I guess he's going for the West coast instead of the East coast like your boys. I kinda thought he was gonna go for Japan, but what do I know, I'm just the mom.
Carla - I like your petname for the boys' ship "The Flying Dutchman"! Do you know the real name of the ship? The address he gave me just says BEQ 178.

My son enjoys fishing too. Had an amazing fishing trip with his buddies in Thailand while on deployment. Their guides prepared the fish for lunch as fast as the boys were catching them. I'm not a big sushi fan, but the way this was presented it looked very tasty indeed. He also enjoyed fishing when he was IA in Cuba @ GTMO, he caught a 60+ lb red snapper. They ate like kings for a while with that catch!
Good luck to all your boys in OS A school. Lots to learn. My son graduated best of best, hard to believe 4 years ago I was getting ready for our PIR weekend 9/25/09, time sure flies.

t4inparker, I said classing up because my son used that term and I'm trying to learn all the Navy terms. He said a new one last night and I was like what??? It's like trying to learn a whole new language. :)

Classing up is actually starting classes. They phase up as they perform duties - each phase gains you more privileges - like wearing civilian clothes or going off-base with less than 2 other buddies. Their first week is spent in indoc classes (indoctrination) - basic to all attending school at GL.

Joshmom - I don't know about the "classing up", but have heard about phasing up, is that the same thing? And he hasn't as far as I know. He has said they have had class (not OS stuff, but other stuff) all week except today. I'm hoping to Facetime with him this weekend to find out if he is scheduled to start actual OS school on Monday or not. I sent you a PM, so check there.

CarlaBTC, yes, unfortunately all the OS's had to move to that old ship. :) I have not asked my son about heat. I know they have no AC but surely they have heat. It does get cold in Chicago. They do have to walk a little farther now to the galley but my son says it's just more exercise for them. Yes, the NEX is not far from them at all.
