Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

New and Improved Navy A PACT Program
Hi all!
Relatively new to all this.... my daughter left for BC June 27th. She signed up under the new and "improved" PACT program. She was told she would be able to designate after 12 months at her duty station (with help from her Career Counselor) and received $10K incentive to sign up. Apparently, they are trying to make the program better for them. I am wondering if anyone else has any experience at all or if anyone else whose kid is in BC wants to chat about it. Since the new program didn't go into effect until June 1st, many of your kids probably went in under the old contract. I feel like my daughter is a proverbial guinea pig, but hopefully it will work out great for her. I always thought she was this "girly girl" who wanted to work in an air conditioned office, but she is actually looking forward to getting her hands dirty and learning new and different things that she never thought she would do. I am excited for her. Anyone else under the new contract want to talk about it?

I am in the same situation. I was disappointed this is what my son chose, but I am hopeful it will work out for him. My impression is it’s a double edge sword, it can be really good or not. But it will be how he chooses to approach it whether or not it will be a positive experience. My son also left on the 27th.

Well, if nothing else, they will graduate together and fly to Pensacola tigether. That's a bonus. She was originally an AZ and changed at the last minute when we read about the new contract. It COULD be good. I hope....

My son is in the program and also left on the 27th. Has anyone received a form letter? I was also wondering how long are they going to be in Pensacola for A-school

My son also left for BC on the the 27th. He chose A-PACT because their weren't jobs available to take other than Submarine. Once he started fully researching his job he regretted his decision. I could see his outlook for the future was negative, so I reached out to two of my Navy retired friends. One is a retired Master Chief and worked in Aviation. He gave me so much hope and said it will give our kids an opportunity to check out different types of jobs, and not with sailors that are just at their level. They get to work with the top dogs, the ones with years of experience. My son felt better about the future after hearing the pros....I will say he needs to climb this first wall - BOOTCAMP! He sounded pretty stressed in his letters, I think it's alot harder than he expected. Not the physical, the mental and being tired all the time. Good to know your kids are probably in my kids area or division. Praying for all of them!

Hello!
I just read your post, and it makes me feel a little better on my Sons choice to join A-Pact. He left on July 11th, I received "the box" yesterday. Now to wait for a letter or phone call. Thank you for sharing what your retired Navy friends had to say about the program.

Hello, just read your comment from July 17 2018. My son is in Bootcamp now (Dec 11th) and chose A-pact. I was wondering how your son was doing and does he like? I am a little concerned too about this program. I wasn't there when he decided to take this route and I wish I was or that I explained this a little better to him. He just wanted to go quickly and this was the way he could leave soon. Any insight or info would be of help. I appreciate it!

I looked this over and there is a lot of cool stuff, but some of the info seems to be from the program before the changes and I'm afraid it might confuse everyone. Since I've been in the Navy before, I found the career ladder really cool. The main deal about the new program is that they are pretty much trying to have you designated (or at least headed to your A School) by the end of your first year at your permanent duty station. I didn't see that in this article. That was the thing everyone hated about the old program.... they could end up chipping paint for 2 years and never get designated. Now, if you haven't chosen a path to designate, they will find one for you. They don't want you to keep chipping paint for your entire enlistment. Unless I am missing something??? But I really enjoyed this one for myself personally :)
