Hi PA moms,
My son is leaving for boot camp in 10 days from MEPS in Mechanicsburg. We're trying to figure out if he'll fly out of Harrisburg, Baltimore, or Philly. Are there any mom's out there that has had a recruit leave from Mechanicsburg and if so, can you tell me what airport they left from?
Thanks!!

hello!!
I believe my son had MEPS in mechanicsburg. it has been about two years since he left for boot camp. im don't remember which airport for sure , but I am certain it wasn't philly. we said our goodbyes at MEPS. they bus them to the airport from MEPS. we live in south central pa in fulton county. where do you live?
hello all!!
Kathy---when did your son leave in 2011? mine left on july 19th. my husband said he left from Harrisburg. I assumed the mechanicsburg MEPS was the one in Harrisburg. ive been known to be wrong.
Hi ladies, thanks for all of the replies. I think I can safely assume that he'll fly out of Harrisburg. We live in York so I'll be taking him to the hotel and then going back up for swearing in and maybe over to the airport to sit with him if there is enough time before his flight.
tina41, I believe he left in May of 2011. His PIR date was in July. Where is your son now?
Bugsmum, I hope there is enough time for you to stay with him. I had to request some kind of pass from the airline to go thru security with him. We were even able to convince them to give us a pass for his girlfriend. You don't live far from me. I live outside of Harrisburg.
hello all!!
Kathy-- my son is in prototype in goose creek, sc. he is a MM nuke. he left in july of 2011 and PIRed sept 16. once he gets done with this school he will be based somewhere.
Hi Bugsmum!
Guess this is a little late, considering I can see from your replies that you probably already got your answer!
My son left MANY years ago from Mechanicsburg. He was bussed from there to Harrisburg, where they flew out to GL.
His recruiter took him down, so we weren't allowed to go with him, however, we went down night before and stayed in motel right down the road from MEPS. We stayed with him at the MEPS to watch swearing in and watch him leave! (Good thing too....some "snafu" with his paperwork...but I was able to provide backup information)!! Like I said, that was MANY years ago..but I imagine it's the same! (I didn't have the luxery of N4M's back then...so we were on our own for finding information! And his recruiter was a jerk and provided NO information or contact whatsoever!!!! So glad new mom's have this source!!!
Anyway....hope all goes well for your soon to be sailor!!! Remember, we are here if/when you need us ;)
Willysmom...we should talk ;)
HI EVERYONE ELSE!!! Miss our "talks" not very active anymore :(
Hi Bugsmum,
Our son left last Wednesday, July 24th. I am from York as well (actually East Prospect). I hope that you are doing well. We received the box yesterday.
Take care,
Kimpsu89
