When my son left for boot camp, his contract was Aviation Structural Mechanic, but about half way through boot camp they called him to classifications and told him they had too many at that time and so they reclassed him to Aviation Machinist Mate (AD).
Sweet - If he's a Aviation Machinist, then he's an AD. His contract should say AD or Aviation Machinist. However, the Navy also has the Aircrew program also. So you really need to read his contract again.
Here it the official rules on the Aircrew program:
Sweet - Go here an look at the AD rating.

My son graduated BC 12/2/11 and went to Pensacola the next day. He was there till 12/19 and came home for Christmas break. His classes started this past Monday. He's an Aviation Machinist Mate. He told me that he is supposed to graduate A school 2/12/12. He hasn't said anything about SERE training, but he did say he has 5 different classes to take. He's just finished with the first one.
Question - how can I find out if the mom of my sailor's roommate is part of this group since we can't share the sailors names here?
Hi everyone. My sailor graduated from Boot Camp at Great Lakes on Friday, Dec 2 and is now at A School in Pensacola, FL. I hope to get to know alot of other moms on here with sailors in Pensacola.
Yes it does continue :-), so happy the boot camp experience is over, I have about 5 and half more years before I have to go through it again, my youngest only talks about his big brother and how proud he is of him. Hopefully I will be able to stay sane through that one. There is only a 2 hour time difference still, my son found out the hard way, lol.
I
Hey Tiffani! And the journey continues :-)
Got a text from my daughter at 3am my time - saying good morning and that her phone would be off and tucked away all day. Did not want to remind her of the 3 hour time difference ;-) I'll take any communique I can get......
Happy Monday after everyone! And I hear you on recovering from the Chicago expense. Trying to figure out a little stash for travels back east these next 2 years without going bankrupt.......
Hello all, my son also arrived in Pensacola on Friday, he was in Diana's daughters division. He got to have one of his buddies from bootcamp as his roommate, so he is pretty happy. Said it's pretty laid back (compared to bootcamp). He is ABH, left bootcamp as an E3 also.
Oh wow.....another graduation! Congrats to you and your son. I hear you on the distance. I'm in California. Check out kayak.com and the likes for good deals. I wish Southwest flew into P'Cola. They are pulling out in March.....great prices and very flexible. I'm sure my daughter will make it work. She's a pretty positive person who enjoys new adventures. We have family and friends out that way (I grew up in SC) so she's not exactly too far from family (just me :-/ )
Best of luck to your son. Where will he go when he graduates? Does he know yet?
