Just Drivers License and SSN. Must go through metal detector to get into the building to get pass.  Pretty cool, the pass turns red after 12 hours.

Maybe your son's arrival will trigger my son's move off base letter. He is very close on the move out list. He can hardly wait.

My son graduates tomorrow and will be reporting to Ft Meade on the 27th.  Clockard he called and got a sponsor. All should be set I hope.

Northchannel security to get into barracks?  What do you need to pass/idenfication?  My husband works at the pentagon for the Joint Staff so I'm sure he'll be fine but any idea what i would need?

Just returned from our weekend in Baltimore/Ft. Meade. Never thought I would see snow/rain mix in October. Very enjoyable. Passed the security screening to get into the barracks.

Good to know about the package thing. I wouldn't have had a clue, guess I'll have to plan way ahead when I send things.  Sometimes times get by be though.

Thanks Susan R. for the info.

I was going to send me my son a little halloween package, but he tells me that it takes 5 days to get through security on the NSA side even after it arrives.   Have any of you had that same experience?    Im pretty lucky in that I know another NAVY mom who lives in the area and Im sending it to her.   My son is going to see her this weekend so he'll get his candy corn in time

Thanks Clockard I'll have him ask and let you know.

northchannel,

the Navy only pays when it's a PCS. If he's only moving off base and not changing then he has to pay for the move.  That's what happened with my other son two years ago.

Thanks Clockard :)

Clockard,

First of all, we are visiting our son for the first time since next weekend. Fly in Sat. a.m. out Monday a.m.

Question, he is close to getting approved to move off-base. Does the Navy move any household goods at all for this first move or is it only for subsequent moves?

Hmm who does he pursue it with?   His words to me yesterday were.."they didn't tell me anything."

Does anyone know what happens when you report date falls on thanksgiving day. My son leaves A school the 10th and just so happens his leave ends the 24 th. Also when do they get a sponsor? He wasn't assigned one.
