Clockard, thank you for your organization; the communications have been so helpful. Hoping Debbie in MD will chime in. I'd appreciate her eyes on the ground there.

Excited about the postings for those who are going to visit! We are hoping to go up before the summer! The hotel sounds great!

Ah, ladies, you all are being such a tremendous help to us.  Kac, thank you for the hotel tip and letting us know about the area around base being questionable.  Clockard, sorry I now understand why you directed me to MC group.  Keep the info coming if you are inclined.  Mahalo.

its about 5 miles away from the base. Id suggest staying there considering the area around the base is a lil dodgy and i wouldn't stay in those motels. Plus for 5 miles away this hotel is right accross the street from a huge outlet mall and tons of restraunts and things to do =]

Kac: Thank you for this info; we had not considered traffic or tolls.  Arriving appx 12:30 pm on a Friday, so this is key to get started right away.  How long is the drive otherwise? Is there a place for lodging nearby the base?  I was hoping for another Gateway Inn like Great Lakes on base, but don't think there is one nearby.

Kumu: i live in Philly and visit my boyfriend in Ft. Meade some weekends. It is a very easy drive but just know once rush hour hits (4-6pm, 3 on fridays) traffic is bad. Also there is about 11 dollars worth of tolls to pay. Other then that i would rent a car =]

E kala mai, Clockard:  PCS=permanent change of station status.  Wondering if A school qualifies for this status (Looking into lodging).  I also am logged in to the MC group, but thought those familiar w/ Ft Meade, might know this answer.

We hope to surprise our son for his birthday.  Flying into Philadelphia International and trying to figure if it is less expensive to take a train down to Baltimore then rent a car while in that area.  Perhaps it might be more convenient to just get a car and drive down from Philly.  Just don't know what the logistics are there and costs involved.  We are hoping to visit the area and DC when our son is in class during the day.  Any suggestions?

Also, need to locate lodging that is inexpensive that will serve as a convenient base for us to visit our son at Meade and day trip to Baltimore and DC.

Open to any and all suggestions.

Does any one know if PCS status applies to our sailors going to A school at Meade?

Aloha clockard,

Haven't been on the site for a while; been working my butt off to pay for GL, so I can visit our son at Ft. Meade.  Yes, our sailor is going to MC school and loving both school and maryland; but, is missing his son and wife a lot.  Hoping to make it back there for his birthday in July.
