On the cell phone thing - there are absolutely no cells phones allowed driving through the gate - even hands free!  My son has to hang up - get through the gate & call back....

The care package with maps - things to do - etc is a great idea!  That would be a tremendous help to someone new coming in.  There is a wonderful fried chicken place up there (I'll have to get the name) - they make the chicken - put it in a plastic bucket (to go) & dump tons of honey on it!  Along with the biscuits.  At 1st I thought YUCK - but one bite was all it took to get me hooked.  Just wish we had one down here!

okay all the stress over the hotel and area is over. I had an awesome weekend in MD. I stayed at the Sheraton, it was about 20 mins away from FT meade and right accross the street from the Mall (not that my sailor cared much about that lol.) I highly recomend the hotel it was right in the middle of everything lots of restraunts to pick from and not to far from any attractions. We even went bowling and found an arcade. Like Debbie said most of the area is fine just bits around forte meade were a little shady but all in all a very positive experience

Thanks Debbie and clockard , i warned my boyfriend of the area and he said he will look into everything and keep me in a safe place. He didn't know it was a bad area either. Im not to thrilled with staying in the hotel by myself at night but i have faith in him. ill let everyone know how the hotel is and the area, ill be there on friday =].

clockard, is the area surrounding fort meade not the safest? i wasn't aware i looked into a few hotels mainly the comfort inn and knights inn because they were fairly low priced. they are in the silver spring college park area? The rest of the airports are near the baltimore airport. and i did find out the army has a hotel on base my sailor will be looking into that as it would be easier to stay there then having to driving to pick him up and drop him off, as he is in A school and cant stay out the weekend yet.

I feel like im blind going into this cause he has about as much info as i do lol. I will let everyone know about the hotel once i actually get there this weekend
