I wonder what the reason for the reduction of BAH? It is an expensive place to live I am sure! I will be visiting in the spring and it sounds intimidating LOL!

Been awhile - still haveing problems with the computer! There was only 1 time that I have been up to Ft. Mead & had a car - the rest of the times we've been with my son - I only had to show my license - but always had my son or daughter-in-law (or both) in the vehicle. I know one big thing is no cell phones while driving on base & especially not while going through the gates.
I am still amazaed at how large the base is. But there really is tons of stuff to do on & off base. The Arundel Mills area is great for shopping & eating (my daughter-in-law used to work at the Michaels in the area). And if you're a Wal-Mart lover there are several in the area. I think one trip we made most of them.

The best shopping is on base (tax free) and in Delaware (also tax free). I'm not really sure how the best way to get to Delaware is - I've never driven it - just ridden) - but I do know you go over the bay bridge - it's a beautiful sight - even snowing! And thankfully I wasn't driving that time!

And again - if you send me a message I can give you guys my son's name & phone numer/email - he's been at Ft. Mead for 8 1/2 years now - looks like he may be leaving next summer though. He's put in for Hawaii (Oahu) & San Antonio. I'm really really really hoping the San Antonio orders come through! That's only a 4 1/2 hour drive rather than 2 days or a plane trip!

Oh - and winter gear - Jeremy swears by thinsulate! But - I've also seen him showing snow in a t-shirt & pj pants with flip flops on..... At the same time my husband looked like an eskimo - covered head to toe and walking like a robot!

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

I meant to say we got some winter clothes for him to survive the weather! We may have to wait until spring for a visit!

Thanks for all the good information! My son leaves to report next Friday! He was told by his sponsor that we would never be able to see where he lives because it is "restricted" and no civilians are allowed in the area? He said he can't have friends, girlfriend (wow, I hate that(not)LOL) in where he lives unless they live there also and yes, he says that means mom and dad too. Now I wonder if his sponsor is correct? Oh well, I can live with that since he will probably just want to hang out at our hotel. We went and purchased some winter clothes to survive the weather.

They do have a kitchen with a stove/oven, fridge and microwave that they all can cook in. I'm not real sure about the toaster oven though. I'll have to ask Ben. He's been there since 9/7/10. He's in mass communications. I'll let you know what I found out.

Hi Everyone! Ben finally was able to get in touch with his uncle who is in the Navy. His uncle & aunt and going to pick Ben up today and they are all going to go to dinner and take him back to base. Ben was very excited that they were home and were able to pick him up. Thank goodness he has family close to him. I'll let everyone know how it all went. Have a great weekend!!!

Hello All. My daughter is currently in Pensacola, FL attending the Joint Cyber Analysis Course (JCAC) for CTN rating. She will be finishing the course in December and will be going to Ft. Meade in January 2011.

@Clockard have a great weekend!! Looking forward to any news you can share.

Hi! Yes, Cambridge , Ohio is only about 45 minutes west of Tiltonsville. Yes, I'd like to communicate with your Navy mom friend from there. Thanks so much! At last, someone close to home who is on Navy for Moms.

Hi! Ben will be at A-school at Fort Meade until the end of March. He then will get his first assignment to who knows where. He's doing good. We haven't seen him since graduation, 9/2/10. He's pretty lucky though, he has an uncle who is in the Navy and lives in Annapolis. He just arrived home from Afghanistan last week. He hasn't seen him yet. Let me know how your weekend was. Have a great time with your son!
