My son travelled home in uniform for Thanksgiving; I think he had to at least leave and return to the base in uniform. I guess we're lucky he is getting home for a few days over the holidays.
CTmomof3....im with you on not understanding the military. I am constantly repeating the phase "needs of the navy" lol I just made reservation at the NAVY lodge Dec 26-Jan 1, my son was going to come home for just two days so since I have vacation and its just a 6 hour drive this will give us more time with him Looking forward to it. Has anyone stayed at the NAVY Lodge in Annapolis?
I think the civilian clothes thing is widespread. My son has also been told to wear civilian clothes.
Thanks for that info on the lock down. Can some on clarify the liberty for the holidays. My son last night mentioned that he has a 4 day weekend for Christmas and New Years.. So I asked does that mean you can leave after work on Thurs or Fri morning and go back Monday afteroon. He said no he "thinks" he can't leave till AFTER work on Fri and must be back on Monday. He drives me nuts. Thats not a 4 day weekend then. He's in holding and doesn't have watch so what's you guess as to the correct days? I so want to tell him...go up to your LPO and ask a darn question on the days. GRRR.
A few days ago he volunteered to the the assistant to the Command Sargent Major. He has no clue what he'll be doing for that. Then yesterday he volunteered to drive an O6 into washingtion for some meeting then bring him back. So he'll be spending the day roaming around DC till he gets the call to pick the guy back up. Weird thing is, he was told not to wear his uniform just civilian cloths...so last night he went out and bought nice ones. His LPO didn't want him roaming around in uniform.. Wonder why since he was working isn't he? I will never be able to figure the military out.
Merry Christmas to everyone too! I am looking forward to seeing my sailor on the 24th!
Thanks Clockard and Merry Christmas to you if I forget to say so later on (and too all the Ft Meade Moms!)

Do you know anything more about this lock down? Does that mean they can't go off base? I sent a local navy mom a few care packages for my son as it is quicker to do it that way and he'll need to leave base to pick them up Also seriously considering going there the week after xmas instead of having him come back home. Not sure what the time frame of the lock down will be If you can shed any light that would be helpful Im also taking with my sailor tonite
Like that story, Northchannel. Just goes to show, everybody needs to pick up milk. Curious about this lock down. Does anyone know if they need special permission to keep a car on base? I had my son's car towed to a garage yesterday to get it running. He hasn't used it in two years living in New York City but am wondering if he can just drive it on base or will need prior approval or something like that.
A funny little story,
Last night my son was at the Ft. Meade PX and saw the Army 4 star general picking up a gallon of milk in civilian clothes. My son was a little surprised - he said "Doesn't he have people to do that." I told my son that at home, his wife is probably in command.
