Hey Moms - My son is halfway through Navy boot camp but I just joined this group because my daughter is in Hawaii with her Marine who is stationed there. They have a car given to them by a cousin. This car is turning out to be a lot of trouble. Needs two new tires, new brakes, new tail light and the idle doesn't work right. They don't have the money to work on it.Does anyone know where they can get rid of it? Like a scrap yard or something?

Hey Kirsten funny you should say that you plan on being out there first week in May. Thats about the same time my husband and I are planning on going also. It depends on our son still being there and not out on deployment. It would be great if he is still there during that time due to it being hubby & my birthday and wedding anniversary. Its on May 3rd. Also it will be Dan's birthday on May 8th "20"years old. You never know we may see each other there. :)

Welcome Sue. My son has been over there a year and a half. We were there in April we didn't want to leave either. What sub/ship is your son on. My son is on the Columbia.

Don't have experience in the questions you need answers to Brook, but I just wanted to say welcome to the site.

Kathryn, brookbartness...welcome and what ships will your sailors be going to??

We've heard from Nick a couple of times...he has top rack on his ship and that's about all I know so far. The next month he will be working on his quals but otherwise I think the six hour time difference is a challenge calling home during the week.

Glad you got the phone call that he is safely on the ground.
Mom's always have the right to wonder, no matter how old they get.

Feel like the mom of a new recruit! Got the Aloha call last night, he made it to HI but was in baggage claim and it was so noisy. His sponsor from the ship was there to greet him and today the wondering starts again...did he sleep on the ship last night, was he wow-ed by the beauty of HI, has he ate today, was he blown away when he seen his ship, when will he be calling, etc.etc.

I know you have all been there ...I also know he WILL be okay but a mom has to wonder...right?!
