Just to share with you new moms going to PIR, here are some things that I observed last weekend.

1. Be sure to take a tote for your belongings that will hold ALL that you are carrying in or chances are that you may lose something between the bleachers and never recover it again. We lost a nice jacket and sippy cup.

2. You can save places for loved ones that are "extras" but be prepared to politely guard them consistently.

3. I went to Sarges meet and Greet. It was wonderful for information and the food. However, we were exhausted and it seemed to be very long. Be prepared for that. Also, alot of the info that we received we already knew from this site. That is how wonderful this site and Sarge is! :)

4. Do not worry if your SR has placed the name of a family member on another recruits list. All they do is ask for the last name and division number with your id. Not at all a big deal and we went right in.

5. Absolutely adjust your camera before it begins.

6. Don't forget to take pics when the PIR is over. It seemed very chaotic with everyone charging their new Sailor, but those pics are sooo important when you get back home.

7. IT IS A MUST to get some sleep between PIR and the airport trip if your Sailor is shipping out that night. My daughter was at airport by 1AM and had a 12 hour wait. After our 11 hour trip to get there, the PIR and the day with her, by the time we got to the airport, I was so exhausted (having health issues) that I had to return to my hotel for a few hours sleep and then return to the airport. Never in a million years would you have told me that I could not have stayed up with her. But it was the case. So if you can get a power nap, get it! It will make the airport time much better.

Hope this helps someone. Congratulations and have a blast!

I have only one more piece of advice...take change if you are getting a rental. The tolls on 94 are $ .90. If you are staying a couple of exits away you can also take IL 41 and avoid the toll roads. We did this both on the way to Chicago and on the way to the airport in Milwaukee. We stayed at the Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire and with the discount code on the brochure the Navy sends you we received a great rate.

Also, take underwear or be prepared to stop for it. My son insisted we stop for boxers and a computer. ;-)

You guys are the best! I love how everyone shares information to make it just that much easier for those following...PIR is this Friday for us and I know it's been said upteen times but 'I COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THIS SITE', just a wonderful group of folks!!!!

Thank you for everything and no, you are not getting rid of me just yet...I will be moving on to the 'Japan Moms' group :)

This is GREAT Ladies! Thank you so much! We can't possibly remember everything and that is why I love being part of a team! Woo-Hoo!

Camera- Yes...ditto on the practice shots, mine came out dark. (indoors only...no outside photography at RTC...you'll get your camera confiscated and the photos deleted...you'll get the camera back. Plus, your Sailor could get in trouble.

Also, the flooring of the bleachers is solid but for these 10-12 inch long slots underneath the seating. They are just wide enough for todays technology to fall through. It's like a Black Hole...you won't get it back. I took a larger purse (all bags are subject to search...mine didn't get searched) and I used caribiners to clip the handles of my camera, cell phone, and keys.

The site has provided valuable assistance for us;  the PIR experience was exceptional;  not at all prepared for the drum cadences and the sight of the SR's in the PIR.  Very moving, and something I will not forget.  Thanks to all who have worked to provide the insights and information!    Bravo!

ps -- I changed the name, as my Sailor is not an SR anylonger, (I don't think)....still catching on...!  We arrived too late (traffic) to go to the meet and greet -- would have been fun.   sigh.    still, the weekend was excellent.
