I've read that the 900 division is the performing division?!? I'm guessing maybe my son is playing drums as that is what he did in high school but I'm not sure! Any one else have a recruit in this group? Anyone received a letter or call yet? I've only gotten 'the box', 'the I'm here call', and 'the form letter' which didn't have any small note written in it :( ! Would love to hear from others and keep in touch so we can share everything we hear about what our kids are going through!

scrapthis911 - My son is also in PIR 6/08.  Got the "I arrived safely", the "Box" (no note either), the form letter and that's it.

They keep saying no news is good news!!  Hang in there....

Hey there. My daughter is in Ship 2, Division 930 ans I have only gotten the "I'm here" call, the box (with no note) and the form letter, with a note to give her bofriend the address. That's all. I am happy that she is in the 930 division because I am assuming she volunteered for it and it feels like she would only do that if she were still enthusiastic about the whole boot camp process. As  they say, no news is good news. We will hear something when we hear something. I never realized how much of a control freak I was until this adventure.

My nephew is in Ship 2, division 930 as well!

Hi All, my son is in Ship 2 Div 930 as well.  Received my small box of clothes and form letter (no note).  When he called home for his 16 seconds he did say he was told they could call home again in 2 weeks.  Didn't hear from him yesterday...no news is good news! Hang in there other moms...we are in for an emotional journey.  Even though I completed boot camp many years ago, it isn't the same when you are the mom and your baby is gone, with no contact.  As someone else pointed out below - control.  It isn't control, it is love, and knowing your child is safe.  Once I received the call that he had made it, I felt a huge load lift from my shoulders. Doesn't mean I don't start crying when I think of him being there and me here!  He is underway and safely in the Navy's hands.  I hope I have given him the life skills he needs in order to dig deep and find his inner strength - he will need it over the next 45 days.  So will we! I look forward to chatting with other parents of sailors on here.  We are fortunate our children (and those of you who have spouses in BC), have chosen the path they are traveling and we all should be extremely proud of their decision to enlist.

Well I'm glad to see others with the same ship/ div!!!! I was sure hoping to get a letter today but I'm beginning to think that my son may not be much of a letter writer...I don't really know because most kids don't really write letters to their parents lol! Keeping my fingers crossed ANC counting down the days until I can see him! Nice to 'meet' all of you! Please update and share info as you get it as I may be living vicariously through those of you that have letter writers!

No need to worry.. .No letters hear either. I don't think they are able to write until the 2nd sunday if then....My son has only been gone 2 weeks so it will probably be another week before a call or letter...hang in there....we are all in the same boat - haha

IWe haven't received a letter yet. I didn't really think we would hear anything until the third week for some reason.

No letter yet for me either.  Since the form letter was mailed on a Monday and received on a Wednesday, I did have my fingers crossed.  I know my son isn't a letter writer.  His teachers had to coax him to write more than a paragraph for journals in school. This experience may encourage him to write at least a short letter to his mom!  Somewhere else on this site, I read it can take almost 3 weeks or so to receive mail since the 'Mail Petty Officer' has to go through federal training. :)

Nice to meet you all! My son is also in this division. How??? We have no idea, no musical, instrumental background at all! Before he left he said "hope I don't get a 900 division" LOL! I bought plane tickets yesterday so in lst nights letter I threatened him with his life on getting held back. We live in very southern Arizona. And crap no letter came today! :(

No letter(s) in my mailbox today :(  I was hoping he was able to write this past Sunday.  He didn't want to take any writing materials with him (not cool).  Did anyone else send paper/SASE/env with their kid? Maybe tomorrow!

No mail again today either. :( Has anyone else in 930 received anything or is it still too early?  Since my son didn't sing or play a musical instrument, I imagine he must be part of the drill team.  I wonder if they view height as an advantage? He is tall!  I have seen other discussions where some families are not receiving the discounted rate for PIR with local hotels. I called and made reservations last night with Springhill and rcvd the $69/night Graduation Day rate. A rental car is going to cost more than lodging.  Hope everyone is hanging in there - today was a tough one for me.

Makaha's mom - we still can hope for tomorrow and maybe a call this weekend?! There is a two hour time difference between where I live and GL.  I figure after 7pm my time, no way am I receiving a call! I'll post tomorrow, one way or the other if an envelope shows up.  Please do the same. :/
