Myself, and Shawns 2 brothers are going to his PIR June 8th. Just curious where his fellow recruits families will be staying. I was thinking about staying at the Navy Lodge, as it is very close to base. Any suggestions.

Staying at Springhill Suites Waukeegan.  Can't wait!!

How close it that to the base? is it reasonable?

Also staying at Springhill Suites. I'm with you Kathyrc! Can't wait!

I stayed there for my sons PIR. It is very close to the base and sits in the Navy Family Housing community. The staff there is friendly and very informative and the nightly rate when I was there was $65. At check in you will also get a NEX card for limited purchases at the Mini Mart just down the street. When you call to make a reservations they wil ask you for your sailors name and rate (that's how you get the discount).

In the mornings there is a sack breakfast, orange juice, bagel and cream cheese and a granola bar, a great PIR morning breakfast. I will stay there the next time I go to visit my son I highly recommend it.

That sounds very reasonable, and I like the Navy Lodge being close to the base. Thank you all so much for the replys

What is 'rate'? Is that his ship/div? Im still learning the Navy Lingo.

Rate is their "rank"...Enlisted Navy have Rate and Officers have Rank. Rate=Pay Grade too. Enlisted - E-1 to E-9.

Just booked at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suits for the festivities

Im division 930 and I know there are several of us staying there. The meet and greet at Flanagans looks good too!

I'm staying there. My son is Div 174.

The helpful information is appreciated by this novice SR mom!!!

is there a reason why the places to stay do not appear to include any from Libertyville?  Is it too far away, or is there no shuttle, or ?

Just curious.

btw - we took an afternoon ride to the GL base this past weekend, and had a nice preview of the area.  Didn't see very much, but the feeling of being so close to our SR was wonderful.

You know...IDK! It's about the same distance as Gurnee and Waukegan. They also have some great places to eat...Wildberry's and the Trattoria Pomigliano (this is the one that Sarge gets the free meal for your Sailor). Maybe type in Libertyville Hotels in the N4M's Search Engine and see! Sarge would know to...you can always call him: SARGE AT 847-212-0246
