Ok we need to be asking our SR when battle stations are....At the time of the battle stations we all need to have a blue candle event! Light those candles and pray that we all get the "I'm a salior" phone call!

Hey Marywil2000 - I love the blue candle, and have been burning one since 8/9 when my son left.  My dad served in the Navy for 32 years and there were lots of times he would be gone for months at a time.  This was years ago of course, and my mom had her own version of the blue candle, which is the tradition I now continue.  She would buy those big mason jars when they would go on sale, and anytime she found blue candles on sale - it didn't matter if they were tapers, votive, funny shapes, as long as they were blue.  As soon as my dad kissed us goodbye and walked out the door, she lit a candle and placed it in a fresh mason jar.  When it would burn out, she put in another and light it.  We went through lots of candles, and lots of jars, but she never worried about the house burning down because it was in that big glass jar.  When he returned home, it didn't matter what time of day or night, the four of gathered around the mason jar, said a little prayer, had a family hug, and blew out the candle.  Most people do indeed burn one for special times or when they know their sailor is at battle stations, but because my mom burned it as long as my dad was gone, I can't imagine doing anything differently.  I have my stash of mason jars and fat blue candles and they are burning.

I was just thinking how interesting it is because all those years ago, my dad walked where my son walks now.  That's pretty neat.

Kathy that is great that you are carrying on that tradition. Just want to support all of our kids, they are all so brave and very selfless to make this incredible sacrifice. I can't believe that I was blessed with such an amazing child. Maybe I will just start to burn those blue candles now! I love the idea :)
I love this idea of burning them continuously. I will light mine and keep it burning. Thanks for the idea, I am counting the days until I see my son again.  I missed his call Wed. night but have his message saved on my cell and listen to his voice every day.
Ok well I will send  a letter out tomorrw and ask. I 've been sending letters everday but have not heard how much mail she is getting.
ive asked in every letter for the past week so he doesnt forget to tell me. lol. i told him i wanted to know especially so all the blue candles can be shining bright and my cell phone wouldnt leave my side for one second the following morning so i could hear my amazing SAILORs voice once again :) he has let me know pretty much everything that he does there. i received 3 letters yesterday with a special something inside (a piece of the sweater he wears everynight and it had his distinct smell which melted my heart) hes extremely tired. being on staff means they get introuble for anything the division does wrong and are the ones that get punished for it. but he said even though it can be tough hes figured out that every small thing they do is just another puzzle piece connecting together for their final test (BS 21). all is well and 334 is coming together rathr quick. hope to get more letters soon. it makes everything that much better and thedays are flying by now. hugs to everyone and let us know when you hear something new :)
