OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I just received my daughter Jen's letter and she is in this ship/div. what hotel should I call to make reservations for graduation? She can't list her brothers or sisters because she can only have four people. Anyone know how I can help them to be involved? She has three brothers and one sister. Jen said she is having "an insane time"!

Hi,mgallop, you have several questions, so let me touch on each:

There are plenty of hotels in the area, at a variety of price points. You have some time to do a few searches on the area and make a decision. If you bring more family, consider a Residence in. You can get a "suite" with two bedrooms, a kitchen and a living room with a sleeper sofa--allows you to sleep plenty of folk economically.

How old are the siblings--you may not have to have them on the list, depending on age.

Finally, you may want to post "general" intro items and questions to the main discussion thread. Most of us veteran moms do not monitor individual discussions. (We have lots of PIR groups going at the same time, so it's hard to follow all the "sub" discussions to the groups).

When you write Jen, be sure to tell her about Navy for Moms--and have her shipmates share with their families. You will find this community to be welcoming and helpful during this introduction to Navy life and into the future!

Thank you, I will take a look around for a hotel.  My son is the youngest/11, so I guess he can go no matter what, the others are older than 12.  Thank you for introducing yourself and your information.  I am going to need all the help I can get to get thru this!  LOL

Sorry, Residence Inn. (The text was behind the chat window!)

Welcome mgallop. Also check out theSurvival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie (clickable link). You'll find everything you need to get started on N4M. Videos, PDF files of boot camp processing days, links to all the important groups plus tips on how to use this site. Keep in mind the videos and PDF files may take some time to download the first time you try it. It'll look like nothing is happening. Be patient.

Pay special attention to a group called PIR Reference Information. Here you will find all kinds of recommendations for PIR about hotels, rental cars, places to eat and a host of other PIR related information. The Residence Inn is a good suggestion (in fact, my family is staying there the night before PIR).

You could have your SR check with other SRs in her division to see if they have any room on their lists for additional PIR attendees. Then you can see if they can add your older kids to their lists.

As always, please don't hesitate to ask questions. That is what we are here for.
