Hey Chiquitos,

If you go to the forums on here they have information with hotels rental cars etc. I have been doing a lot of looking around for hotels and finally booked my room Friday night. I booked at the residence inn. Its 4 miles from base and they give you a sweet discount if you are an AAA member. They also have a shuttle to the PIR for $3. I also booked my rental car @ enterprise. Its only 10 min. From the hotel. I've never been to Chicago so I too am super nervous! Never travelled alone!

Thanks, I will look into that today.  I have to book it no later that Wednesday. I appreciate all the help given to me.

Hope to meet you soon!!

Hi Chiquitos,

Southwest Airlines (from California) has the lowest ticket prices available and that is flying into Midway Int'l Airport. I did mention staying in Gurnee has more national chain restaurants, but if you really want to be close to base i would suggest Waukegan. From the map and directions, this looks like the easiest access to the base. I guess it all depends on what your preferences are. All the towns are within 5 miles of each other so it's a pick and choose. I think we're going to stay at the Quality Inn in Waukegan.  Our flight from Cali is going to cost over $1000.00 and we're on a very tight budget, so I'm looking for low price accommodations.

Yes, it has been a stressful time, believe me. We still  don't have our money to buy our flight tickets. I just hope the prices don't go up by the time we do, yikes!

All in good time, I have faith!!

Oh, have you seen any of the meet & greet information? there is one on Ap. 12 at the Ramada Inn in Waukegan. If I book the flight that I'm hoping for, it will get us in at 4pm and then we have to drive the hour up to Waukegan from the airport. So, hopefully we'll be able to make it. It starts at 6pm for all Navy families.

I started to write on this wall and somehow I lost/erased what I had written.  Anyway, do you have the number for the Quality Inn in Waukegan?  We are on a VERY tight budget ourselves and that's why I am going crazy looking for deals on flights.  I am so stressed over this.  I saw there will be a meet & greet at the Sarge'sSundance Saloon on Thursday the 12th. from 5:30-9pm.  There are others, where should we go so we can all meet at the same one the day before?  What do you suggest?

Blessings

My name is Amanda! I haven't even looked at hotels yet. I'm still trying to decide how long to stay. It would be nice to meet all of y'all!! Where are you from Rose?

Hi Amanda,

I'm from California. I've been doing lots of studying of the area and I think Waukegan would be the closest/easiest place to stay. I understand that there is a shuttle bus to the base from Waukegan hotels and there are low priced hotels too. I'm expecting a big paycheck to come in tomorrow, so as soon as I see it in my account I will book my flight/hotel/car. I expect to do this on Fri. 3/9. Don't want to wait too much longer cause prices will most likely go up.
