Dawn, congrats on your call!
Love my sailor, my son is also 049! No call as of yet. If your recruit's division is receiving calls and you are not, don't feel too left out. If a recruit is on watch, and the RDCs tell them they can call, those on watch can not leave to make calls. I waited almost six weeks to hear from my first son. Then when he could call, he used a phone that didn't work. He could hear me, but I couldn't hear him.
I'm going to make all my arrangements tomorrow. I don't know if it is true, but I heard that the deals are better on Tues.
Kelly, from whatI have heard, week three is when wisdom teeth come out. I guess ofter they go through all the processing, it takes a while to schedule the teeth pulling. I also heard that they get to spend a day or two in "SIQ" Not sure what it stands for, but it is the "Sick Bay"
I think that week four is when they take their pictures. I told my son to get package A. it costs $140, but it is the better deal. (They get to pay for them!) So if you talk to or write your recruit, tell them to get package A. The picture is so worth it!!!!!!

I am going to buy an NEX gift card. The NEX on the RTC side is basically personal items and LOTS of stuff that says Navy Mom for after PIR, but I know the main one is just like a regular store with clothes and electonics! (Also Navy Mom Stuff!!!!) Since our recruits can not get a "real" gift, I think the NEX card is good. I think I will also send a calling card. I also like the idea of downloading a picture. That way it can't be confused with all the other gift cards! lol

I was gone for a day, and wow, I missed a lot!
roysecity, my son is division 049. My other son was also laudry PO. He said that it is the best job! I had to ask: Why? You can hide there! When the division has ITs or something, "Oh, I have to go fold clothes!" The down side, not all the recruits clean up..... how do I say this nicely? ..... well, after they go to the head! lol

HAPPY DANCE! I got TWO letters today!!!!!!
He is doing good. He is Laundry PO, which is his brother was also! He has to make sure the clothes are clean and free of stains. He passed the swim test, but failed the PFA. He said it was the push ups that got him. He also sent two letters to mail to his girlfriend in Brazil. He wrote them in Portuguese, so sinceI only know English and Spanish, I guess he trusts me enough! lol'
He sounded good. I guess since he wrote, I won't send the cookies and cards with goofy songs! lol I'm just soooooo glad he wrote!

Davesmom, I understand about a weird holiday. Both of my boys are in GL. I only have my daughter left at home. One son left in Aug. and the other one left in Nov. I was glad they were both in DEP long enough for me to enjoy the holidays last year, but it still made it hard this year. I still want them with me. At least I has able to talk to my son in A school.
Sherry, it is rough for our recruits at first. In my younger son's first letter he said how he cried at night and how he missed everyone. I wanted to fly up to GL and stay with him! It hurt so much to hear how hard it was for him. As the weeks went by, his letters sounded better. It's hard when our kids go off for eight weeks when they have never been away from home longer than a week or so. Don't let them see how we hurt. keep the letters up beat. They need to know how proud we are of them.
Well, I'm off to stalk my mailman today! I have yet to receive a letter, so I'm hoping that today is my day! Good luck to all! May we all have letters in our mailbox!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Here's hoping for phone calls.
I just noticed the days since my first son's PIR and the days till my next one are the same!
Marykelly, I'm glad to hear to solved the mystery of who ate the butter! lol

Maryakelly, that is a good idea. The one thing my younger son still misses, I can't give him. He misses his hair! When he went to BC, it was his first hair cut since 6th grade.
Also ask if there is somewhere he wants to go in the area after PIR, or a special food.

It could work, but keep in mind, the RDCs have seen it all. It's like trying to chew gum in school. Some teachers know when you have it and others don't.

MaryKelly, I had all my students write Ricahrd a Thanksgiving letter. I hope he gets them in time! I used it as a writing assignment. I then put them all in sperate envelopes and mailed them. I am doing the same thing for Christmas.
