MaryKelly, I think you are wonderful and not coco for waving to all our recruits.
It's only been two weeks since my son left, but it feels like months. I think I would welcome a letter this week.

Marykelly,
Thank you!!!!
The base is huge!
There is nothing more proud than walking around town with your new recruit!
I have heard of meet and greets at Flanagan's, but I like the one at the Ramada.
After PIR, Flanagan's is a good place to take your recruit for lunch.
Again, thank you for waving to all our recruits!

Bettyannf, I haven't yet received a letter, so you are not alone. I would love a call, but they only get to call home when their RDCs let them.

Navy Aunt, that's funny! I'm going to write my son and tell him about the saltpeter. I'm sure he has not hear about it, but it gives me something to give him a hard time about.

Meilin, after reading your post about the peanut better shot, I called my son to ask him the scoop. It is a shot in the rear and it is penicillian. He didn't get one since he is allergic to penicillian. He has no idea why it is given. He said maybe so they don't get sick, but they do. Recruit crud is common. I'm going to ask my other son if he got one. He had a bad upper respiratory infection. I joked saying he had to get well so he can go to boot camp and get "recruit crud"

Kelly, I'm sorry to hear about your son's ankle. Maybe he will just have to spend a day or two in SIQ. Just keep in mind, the Navy will do eveything with your son's best interest in mind.
No letter from my son today either. I did get his check for working an election before he left, but nothing from him. I'm hoping for this Wed. I've already sent several Thanksgiving cards. I sent one and signed all the pet's names.

Here is a link for anyone wanting a Blue Star Banner.
They offer them at no charge. I didn't get mine there, since they only offer one star, but other moms have, and they had postive comments.

Congradulations to all who reeived letters this week. I didn't get one, but I'm hoping for next week.
I had my students write letters today, and put them all in seperate envelopes and mailed them. I hope he gets them in time. I'm going to do the same thing for Christmas.

Lisaz, I hear ya! I thought sending my oldest would be easy, but I think it is just as hard. There is good news: The joy of holding them after eight weeks apart, and once in A school, you can talk to them every day! I talk to my younger son daily.
For my Sailor Recruit, I'm going to give my students a writing assignment for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am going to have them write to my son. I think it will help him to know that so many people are thinking about him. I think I am also going to make a challange to everyone in my email to write him. Since he will be stuck at basic for the holidays, maybe it will brighten his day to receive a lot of cards and letters.

Eileen, the Navy Lodge is very close to the base for the PIR. I would say about 1 mile or less. I drove the route the night before, and it took a few minutes, but the day of, it took about 30 minutes because of all the traffic! I think I left the hotel around 6:30, and I remember I was in my seat by 7:30- 7:45. Once you are in the area, it didn't take long to go through all the security. The ceremony starts at 9:00 AM.
As for Liberty; Liberty Call is at 10:35 AM. Once it is called, unless your recruit is a "Grad and Go", they are free to be with family. There are restrictions such as they can not drink or smoke regardless of the age of the recruit. They have to stay within a certian mile radius of the base, and they have to be back by 7:30 in the evening. They can be picked up on Sat. morning around 8:30 AM.
The recruits are debriefed about what they can and can not do while on Liberty, so I would ask your recruit.
If you don't get a letter this week, it could be that your recruit had not yet moved over to the baricks. They can not write home while they are still processing.
Good luck on receiving letters and please, be kind to your mailman! lol :-)
