Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hi everyone! I'm just now finding this site but my husband is in this division. I'm not his mom but I am a mom so that counts right? Haha. I have gotten a few phone calls and although he really misses home it sounds like he is doing well.
I got a letter from my son. It was so upbeat and positive. Said the same things that all the others are writing. Says he is making friends, gaining weight, food is great, etc...HOWEVER I recd a phone call yesterday and he cried for the entire 20 minute phone call. He hates it. He says it is nothing like he was told. Says the recruiters tell lies. Says he isn't okay with his decision. He says that he isn't making friends, says people in the division keeping joking around and not being serious and then they all get punished. He says he has tried to speak up and lead but most don't listen. He is very depressed. I told him to tell his RDC that he needed to talk to a chaplain. I hope that was not a wrong thing. He is an only child and has never been away from home so I know he is homesick but he was distraught. I have no idea what to do or who to go to.
I received a call from my husband today! Just as navy mom said he told me it was his last phone call until after they are done. He also said that their division is horrible (he was being dramatic) and that some people were not taking it seriously so they continue to get in trouble for people talking when they aren't suppose to. Other than that though he said he's gaining weight but the food was horrible and he misses my cooking. He said he has made a few friends and will be getting adopted for Christmas! It's always so good to hear from him and I have to try my hardest to not cry when we talk. I woke up our son to say hi to him and it almost made my husband cry to hear his voice. I can't wait for January 10th!!!

Lisa, I think I know why the change in your son's demeanor . . I got a letter from my son and it seems the division got in some trouble.  My son seemed upset with the antics of a few, and they were threatened with being delay in graduation.  It is all worked out I think, but I'll bet that's why some of the tone of letters/calls changed.  All in all, however, my SR seems to be doing well and is very happy.  I hope all of you got letters today, too!

My son is in Ship002Div909.  I'm trying to figure something out and hope any of you can help.  We got our son's first letter last week.  It was written on 11/27, mailed on Mon 12/2 and we got it Friday 12/6.  He asked us to write him every day as our letters were like gold to him.  We have probably sent him at least 6-7 letters, but have had nothing back yet.  If he writes on Sunday, mails on Monday shouldn't we get something this week?  Has anyone gotten second letters.  Also no phone calls either.  Does RTC hold incoming letters to recruits?  I realize they can hold outgoing letters and/or contact.  Its like he dropped off the face of the earth.  Now I hear about General Quarters and the blackout.  We have not heard back from him about putting our names on the list for PIR and would hate to go all that way and not be able to get in!!  Just trying to figure it all out.  Thanks

SC Mom, my SR is in Ship 02, Div. 909.  He called this past Sunday and again on Tuesday.  I received letters he'd written on 12/6 yesterday.  It was the second time I'd received mail from him, not including the PIR form letter.  I'm in Southern California.  I understand that the mail goes out on Mondays from GL.   Is there any chance your SR would call someone else (girlfriend or something) or mail letters elsewhere?

My SR did mention that the Division had gotten into trouble this past weekend and they were threatened with being held back but got the OK on Monday.

I'm not sure what you mean by General Quarters and a blackout.  What is that about?

ScMom, my SR is in the same division. I have received two sets of letters from my son. I did also receive the original form letter which should have told you who was on the list for PIR. I also received the Adopt A Sailor letter for Christmas. I have received 3 phone calls from my son, the latest one this passed Tuesday. Letters usually come on Thursdays, it seems. I am in Texas. I like ProudMom93 was told about the trouble they were in but all was cleared and they will graduate 1-10-14 as scheduled. I have heard nothing of this "General Quarters and the blackout" either. Now that has me concerned. What is that??? I would also make sure that he isn't contacting someone else, like a girlfriend. I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I cannot imagine how it must feel. I am going crazy and I have had some contact with my son. Prayers and NMH!!
Well I got another letter today (yay Thursdays!) but my husband said he hasn't been receiving my letters. I send a letter just about every day. I'm not sure if they are holding his mail or if it's just because the holiday season but it's quite depressing. His entire letter was pretty much just asking what was wrong and why I'm not writing him. I wish I could just talk to him and let him know I am writing!
Did your husband say if anyone else was getting mail? We got one letter dated 11/27 but nothing since. My husband is going to PIR and told him that in a letter. We don't know if he has put his dad on the attendee list or not. They should not hold mail.
Yes he said everyone around him was getting mail but he wasn't. I'm hoping it is just a delay from it being the holiday season and bad weather.

Just remember that they get to update their PIR guest lists about a week before PIR, so all should make sure to write them now with names to be on the list.  Once they do the final update, they cannot add to them or change them before PIR.

Got to adopt my sailor today. Best Christmas present ever. Even tho I will see him in 2 weeks it sure was hard to say see ya later again.
