Welcome to PIR 01/20/2012

OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

I have added the two Meet and Greets that are put by outside sources on for ALL families attending PIR.

Here is a rundown on both...please click on the events themselves to read further details and to RSVP.

I understand that both serve drinks...I will ask another mom who attended about Sarge's as I believe that they had it off in another area.

Here's a quick rundown of both Meet and Greets:

Sarge:

5-10 pm at the Sundance Saloon.

FREE transportation from Springhill Suites, Marriot Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, Candlewood Suites and Crossland. All other local hotels for a modest fee.

Guest Speaker from the Base to provide info on where to eat, things to do, how to save $$.

FREE food starting at 7 PM….they also have a menu if you want to order something.

Sarge has lived in the area for over 30 years and knows it well.

Sarge has arranged with his friend Nick at Trattoria-Pomigliano in Libertyville for a FREE meal – ANYTHING they want – for your Sailor.

There is a DJ.

Plus, Sarge goes above and beyond the “call of duty” to help Sailors and their families. (He is the “go to” guy for Taxi (shuttle) service. Prices are great and again does more than he has too!)

Ramada:

6-8 pm at the Ramada.

Finger foods – Chips and salsa, veggies and dip, egg rolls, meatballs, maybe another and it could change. (This is what they had when I went. Sarge was not doing a Meet and Greet then)

Bar – or you can bring in your own soft drink or water. Those staying at the Ramada get a voucher for to free drinks.

Hostess provides a name tag and will come in and greet everyone and ask if anyone would like to speak.

BOTH events are open to everyone. There will be people there that know nothing about N4M’s. Invite them!

...these are just what's in place for you...you can always do what you feel comfortable with! Many moms like to have a quiet dinner together and such. I hear Anastasias is nice...they have even helped out when there was a power outage and the Ramada could not have the M&G. Sarge just started having his a month or two ago. He is a great guy and originally we have always recommended him for his great above and beyind the call of duty taxi service. He helps the families and Sailors in GL so much and decided to start doing the M&G's. Really cares about everyone!

This is "Old Sarge":

What is group C? is that only if you check in at the airport? how do you check in early?

Comment by Navy Mom x3 on November 26, 2011 at 11:46pm
@Future...I fly a couple of times a year for work but always Southwest. I've never seen families split and you can alway make sure to check in 24 hours in advance. I've never paid for early check-in and there are always plenty of seats unless you get in boarding group C. That's only happened to me once and it was when I checked in at the airport. My flight is gutting into Milwaukee around 2pm on Thursday.

Thanks Sam. I will give them a call Monday to get more info!

@future...I have flown a ton since my kids were born and over the years.  I have four kids from 16-23 now, but they weren't always :) . They let parents board with young children first or soon after handicapped. Don't worry about that. Most airlines charge for children over two, so you have to have tickets for them. You can call to make it easier though.

I have looked into flying before and decided driving would be the way to go, but now I am starting to wonder if flying really IS the best choice. However, I have only flown once, 10 years ago. I was 15 and of course I wasn't the one to make the arrangements. Anyways when I look on the Southwest site it doesn't ask how many kids I have just adults. Should I just call customer service to get more information? I have also heard horror stories about families getting split up on the plan and kids having to sit wit strangers. How do I prevent this from happening if I decide to fly instead??? Also, the cheaper tickets don't say they are refundable but the next selection is $200 more! That's crazy. I need help seasoned travelers! haha

Yes future, it was Sunday. I couldn't believe it either. I didn't think I would get one this soon. So happy. Hang in there, yours will come...
