I didn't not residence had a shuttle to and from base. Idk if we will use it because we plan on road tripping it up there but it is nice to know the shuttle is there just in case.

I am staying at the Residence Inn. I got the two room suite because my friend is coming to help with the kids. It has 2 rooms (both have a queen sized bed), 2 bath rooms, a living area with a sofa bed and a full kitchen, and by full I mean stove, pots pans, the works.

futureHMwife:  Good idea to book the hotels early!  No penalty if you have to change dates/cancel...and sometimes a few of the hotels book up.

Comment by diannep on November 23, 2011 at 7:09pm

Samantha:  The two are quite close.  There is nothing shopping/restaurant wise right around Residence (where we stayed...loved it).  It is in a quiet office park area, although backs up to the main drag.  It is pet friendly...don't know if that matters to you?  Springhill has more action around it.  Right next to the Walmart shopping center, some restaurants, etc.  Residence has studios plus 2 bdrm 2 bth suites....all with full kitchens.  I believe Springhill has studio-type suites.

Both are great hotels!  Both have PIR shuttle.  Residence has a hot buffet breakfast (free) in the lobby each day.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one.  Residence is about 1/2 mile closer to RTC.

Made my hotel reservations today! I am so excited. I know its a long ways away but some how it helps knowing they are made :D

Hi All...My son is Ship 09/Div 46...Can't wait! I look forward to seeing and meeting everyone at PIR. Question, Springhill Suites vs. Residence Inn, any opinions? I see Residence is a bit closer to RTC, but Springhill is closer to Sarge's meet and greet. Is one better for location, amenities, restaurants, shopping, etc.? Any advise is appreciated :)...

Hi diannep3, Lala, and Betsy, I am so glad I found this site! It has already helped so much to talk with other ladies that have gone through or are going through the same emotions. I hope to meet some more ladies with the same PIR for their Sailors and get to know them along with helping them make this time easier. I have already started writing my husband (most days I write twice lol) I have yet to get his form letter but once I do I'll have a big stack of letters to send! My daughter has also been drawing him lots of pictures and I have printed off some pictures of the kids and me to send as well. :)

Hi FutureHMwife, and thank you for starting your PIR group.  Welcome to our wonderful Navy family.  I'm Betsy and also a "veteran" on here.   I have 2 sailors in my family, my youngest son, who graduated from BC in Dec. '10 is in Pensacola awaiting his Orders and my daughter's fiance who is stationed on a nuke sub in Hawaii.  (my lucky duck daughter lives there with him, lol).  We will be here for you all when you want a hug, smile or if you need a shoulder.
