OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

My son is Ship 09 Div 076 and called at 10:40am. So happy to hear from him and know he is not sick but sad that he is missing home. He said there is too much time to think right now because thy have not been too busy yet. My son is not one to sit still long. He is a goer and always doing something athletic.

Jessies mom My husband is from the same ship but division 76. I got a call at the same time. It was wonderful to hear he was doing well. Neither of us cried and we laughed the whole time. Glad he is doing well. He is older so I am hoping he supports all the boys and girls who are missing home.

Anyone have Ship 09 Div 075?  I got the call at 10:35 am EST.

:( No call. I know my son hates the phone and is very independent... but I'll be devastated if he uses the time for something else and doesn't call home. :(

And now I am doing my calculations. ProudNavyMom... your 2 hours ahead of me so that was 945 my time. 1230 now..... I give up, just will strap the phone to my hip and not do anything that makes me not able to answer. ;o)

Stacy C..... My son sad there are two of them.... Him and another guy that are paper pushers. It sounds like that what a Yomen is. I believe our sons work together. Awesome! I'm excited.
Comment by Shauna on December 14, 2013 at 4:25pm
Jenabug...could be. My son is a C. The call was short, about 10 minutes and he said there are 94 in his Div so he may not have called yet?

Oh goodness. Anxiously waiting to see if I get a call Ship 13 Div 079.... Just sent dad a text warning him to keep his phone close too, but secretly hoping that dad doesn't answer so mom gets the call. (is that bad of me? NOooooo.....). I got the first one on arrival because dad didn't answer his phone. Thank you all so much for sharing the information so the rest of us know when to watch for this. I wonder, alphabetical order? Last name starts with an M here.

Stacy C..... What the Yomen? My sons in that div so I'm wondering.

Christina, time never goes by quick enough when we want it to! My kids have been away for a couple weeks at a time durning summer when they would visit their dad so I've had that separation for many years...but this is hard for me not being able to have contact with him when I want. And I've already gone through my oldest leaving home to live in another state. I know it's especially hard for you with yours being an only child. I think once the letters start coming, it'll get a little better for you :)
