OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Tamara and Christiemomof3--from what he said, they have to open their mail in front of someone (not sure who) and one of the cards said Happy Birthday on the front so yes, he had to do some push ups for it. I had read on here previously that if they know it's your bday they "make it memorable" for u. It didn't seem to bother him tho. :)

My SR said he was a Yeoman. I am very proud of him!!

AROC is the Recruit in charge of the division.  They usually try out a few different ones.  They are usually selected for their leadership skills so it is an honor!  The one who has this position at the end of bootcamp will be the one with the sword, leading his/her division during PIR.

Just remember, ladies, that bootcamp is an emotional journey for both your SRs and for you.  This PIR group is still in the breaking down period....trying to get all of the SRs on the "same page."  That is tough for them....but it gets better by about training week 4, so hang in there!

Christina she is on Ship 11 DIV 077. I believe they are going to go through a lot while at BC. she said last week she was tired. it's getting better. they lose privilege of any lead they are given it they don't pass everything. Good Luck everyone. I think I am going to lay low a while and hold my child up in prayer. I will be back on the weekend if I can, Merry Christmas to you all.

Got a call from my son tonight!!! Hooray! It's his bday today so it was so great to talk to him. :) He sounds wonderful and actually happy. He was able to talk for 20 mins. Said he got mail yesterday, a bday card earned him some extra push ups! But it's all good. Had to get his wisdom teeth pulled, but was still in good spirits. Ship 13 div 079.
