~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I wrote this a couple years ago and thought you all would love it, not be careful it will get stuck in your head when you sing it :)
They’re Makin' a list, Checkin' it twice,
Gonna see their Sailor, It's really really nice,
Navy Moms are coming to town
They're bringing the wives, girlfriends too,
Gonna be crying through Pass In Review,
Navy Moms are comin' to town
They've stalked the local mailman,
Facebooked and Tweeted too,
They've learned the rules of OPSEC
and made lifelong friends here too.
Oh, you better dress warm, the weather is cold,
You better wear your ribbons of silver and gold
Navy Moms are coming to town ;-)
My facebook group, family and some friends did a Christmas project and we collected toys for kids who have a parent deployed on the Harry S Truman. This past weekend my hubby and I went to VA Beach to deliver the toys and it was an amazing experience. We ended up with close to 400 kids there and they were so excited about their gifts. i wish i could share the pics with you but I can't so that so here is one of the my Sailor and her friend surround by just some of the gifts :)
Anyone going to any of these meetups the night before PIR. I want to meet some people and get dinner. I like the second two options.
**Here is a rundown of all three M & G's.
Ramada:
6-8 pm at the Ramada.
Finger foods – Chips and salsa, veggies and dip, egg rolls, meatballs, maybe another and it could change. (This is what they had when I went. Sarge was not doing a Meet and Greet then)
Bar – or you can bring in your own soft drink or water. Those staying at the Ramada get a voucher for to free drinks.
Hostess provides a name tag and will come in and greet everyone and ask if anyone would like to speak
.
**Sundance Saloon -"Sarge's":
5:30 - 8 pm
FREE transportation from Springhill Suites, Marriot Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, Candlewood Suites and Crossland. All other local hotels for a modest fee.
Guest Speaker from the Base (when available) to provide info on where to eat, things to do, how to save $$.
FREE food starting at 5:30 - they also have a menu if you want to order something.
Sarge has lived in the area for over 30 years and knows it well.
Sarge has arranged with his friend Nick at Trattoria-Pomigliano in Libertyville for a FREE meal – ANYTHING they want – for your Sailor.
There is a DJ.
Plus, Sarge goes above and beyond the “call of duty” to help Sailors and their families. (He is the “go to” guy for Taxi (shuttle) service. Prices are great and again does more than he has too!)
**Flanagan’s:
5-9 PM at Flanagan’s.
Was the original Meet and Greet for Navy 4 Moms years ago, and hoping to continue the tradition for years to come.
Have set up a room specifically for the meet and greet.
- Free appetizer buffet which includes:
- Free music and Karaoke starting at 8:00pm
- $10 Gift Certificate for navy graduates meal (steak and seafood included)
- You may use your $10 gift certificate you received from participating hotels (or ask for one when you come in) for dinner during or after the Meet & Greet at Flanagan's.
- $1 Domestic Tap
- $2 Import Tap
- $2 Domestic Bottle
You will also receive a $10 gift certificate for your graduate to have a meal of their choice (steaks and seafood included) after graduation. They are allowing the parents to use their sailors $10 gift certificate even on Thursday (we are more than happy to give them another one for Friday after graduation). You can receive the gift certificate at the restaurant at the Meet & Greet or ask your hotel receptionist for one ( Day's Inn, Sleep Inn, Navy Lodge, Great Lakes Motel, and participating Holiday Inn, Marriott, Residence Inn in the Great Lakes, North Chicago and Waukegan area).
They are located 2 minute drive from the Navy base and in walking distance of Red Carpet Inn, Day's Inn, Great Lakes Motel, and Sleep Inn and a quick 5 minute drive from Fountain Square (Waukegan) hotels.
The M & G's are on the night before PIR. ALL events are open to everyone!
Such a sweet son, Christina!
I answered in the BC forum too. :) Will you be traveling by train once you are in the Chicago area?
