Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by B'sMomLa(ship 11 div 090) on January 24, 2014 at 10:38pm: 2 WEEKS!!!! Just checked the weather and if it holds it should be clear and cold for PIR and the few days leading up to it. My SRs grandma received a letter today. It made her day that he would write her. She will be coming with us to Great Lakes and is excited. When should we stop sending letters? I haven't been able to get a fix on how many days its taking for my letters to get to him and don't want to have any get there after he has left for A school.

I just watched the BS21 link again...up top in the BS discussion....so exciting to see them work together, put all their new skills together and the emotional recapping ceremony after they finish...everyone should watch it o get an idea of what they are doing in GL...my sailor said he shook the hand of the Japanese admiral that was visiting during their recapping....he thought that was really cool.

Comment by Sheila (Ship 11, Div 89) on January 24, 2014 at 4:12pm: My SR's girlfriend got a letter today. This past week was hell week. He had to get up at 4am. They had 5 inspections. Another test next Tuesday and a PFA test this past week. They are shooting live fire. He had to do push ups last week because he forgot to get a signature on the damage control sheet (Oops). He said he has gotten to be good friends with another guy who's name starts with Gret.....I don't want to say the full name because I am not sure if it is the first name or last. Hard to tell. This guy has a fiance.
