~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Thank you ellen and diannep, I think he really needs to see the light at the end of the tunnel right about now. It's been over 4 weeks of stress, yelling, etc. and he's probably beginning to doubt that it will ever get any better. Tomorrow should be training week 2 day 5.

We're staying at Days Inn as well.

Has anyone else stayed at or knows someone who stayed at Days Inn Great Lakes? Was it nice? Clean? Service?

We stayed at the Navy Lodge and were very happy with it, especially the discounted PIR price :)

Diannep, thank you so much I hope I'll be able to see him often. I've already told my girlfriends the only trips I will be making is to San Diego.

Beth:  Here is a link with some info:

http://www.netc.navy.mil/centers/tscsd/Student.aspx?ID=0

It probably varies by A School as far as "phasing up" allowing students to go off base on weekends, but usually is after they have been there about 3 weeks.  Of course, they can get in trouble which will set them back in this phase up process.  If their A School is for a pretty long time, they may be there long enough to phase up enough to stay out overnight on weekends and leave the area, staying within the 50 miles radius required.  This works very well for any families who might live in the area in which their sailor attends A School since he/she can actually go home to visit.

Huskies:  Ditto what ellen posted below.  Up until Training Week 4 (different than Bootcamp Week 4 since that includes processing days at the beginning of Bootcamp)....many SRs will feel they can do nothing right because of all of the yelling and screaming.  They can hardly think for themselves at times, with their schedule so rigid and demanding.  But...by about Training Week 4, they have some accomplishments under their belt.  In just two more weeks from this time, they will be SAILORS, so they have their goal in site.  Usually the division is starting to come together by now, more of a team, and they help each other to reach their goals (my son's division had study groups to help those who were struggling).  It is a very busy time the last 2-3 weeks of Bootcamp and they may not have as much time to write, but they do become more encouraged that they will become sailors!
