~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Has anybody from 090 received calls today?  Waiting patiently, but no call so far.

It's weird how priorities change when your child leave for BC I'm afraid to take a yoga class because I won't have my phone on me if he calls, it's all about the phone calls and letters they are like winning the lottery when you get one

It is so sad anytime we loose one of our military family members :( All our thoughts and prayers go out to the families. My daughter is an AO with a helicopter squadron at Norfolk. She was able to speak to the dad of one of the sailors who was killed in the crash and she told him how much all of us are praying for the families and she gave him her cell number to pass on to his daughter-in-law who lives in the Norfolk area. His son and daughter-in-law were newly married and just bought a house. I am sure they are all still in shock and struggling to believe this is happening. He thanks her for the call and for all the thoughts and prayers. They all remain in our thoughts and prayers and I wish there was more we could do.

I live in Virginia Beach and that hit a little closer to home. Don't get me wrong it is always sad when something like that happens but it was different this time since my son is in boot camp.

Good Morning!

Mourning the loss of the sailors who died in the Navy helicopter training exercise off of Virginia Beach VA this past week:

http://www.usatoday.com/videos/news/nation/2014/01/10/4400173/

The 25 yr old was best friends with the son of a Navy friend of mine.  So very sad....the only child of his parents.  Prayers of comfort for all of these families...

LaLa, thank you for the insight and also for the motivation to write. I've started going through family photos and putting one in each letter with a funny caption on the back.

The SRs can only send out one form letter.....although I was told by someone who had worked at RTC that in a divorce situation, they can ask to mail out a 2nd form letter to the other parent.  Not sure many do this.

There is always lots of illness at RTC.  With the overwhelming number of vaccinations they get when they arrive, coupled with being in close quarters with lots of germs, throwing in lots of stress....they just get sick.  Even those who don't normally get sick, like my son was, seem to get something.  Most recover fine and don't suffer setbacks in PIR dates.  The RDCs are good about working with the SRs to let them make up work they may miss if having SIQ days.  Hope all feel better soon!
