I was pretty emotional the first week. Then I started seeing some of the perks in not having to for example; plan dinner, serve at a specific time, lot less cleaning and so on, just like you.  But today I'm feeling that what do I do now thing. I know that this to shall pass!  My husband travels constantly so I am really going to experience the being alone thing. Last week I went on a business trip with him.My husband was pushy about it because he knows me so very well! It was exactly what I needed! It was good to get out of that quiet house.I don't know about Groton. Is this something your son knew when he signed up? It's advanced electronics but I'm embarrassed to say I don't know much else. Looking foward to talking to you!

How do I tell which ship my son's on?

When I look at the list I can't figure it out? Lol!

Groton, Connecticut is where submarine school is. I would imagine the electronic field covers ships and even stateside bases too. If your son was going to be on a sub, he would have known as soon as he signed up, so maybe he will be stationed to a ship?

Ellen,

I was pretty emotional for the first 3 days. I cried all of the time. Not because I don't support my daughter, but because I miss that girl. We would stay up late into the night watching movies and talking. She wasn't home very much but we always touched base via text. I think I'm the one going through withdrawals. I know she is safe, but I wish I had contact with her.

I feel the same way!

Hi Everyone,

My daughter is in this division.  We are from California but at least it was in the Mountains so she is pretty used to 20-30 degree weather.  Hope it holds out for her.  I was told that her A and C school will be there in Great Lakes so she better get used to snow.  This is the first to go military so everything is new to me.  Thank you all for your shared information it really helps!

Laura

Hi Laura! What will your daughter be going into that she will be at Great Lakes for A and C School? We're local in the Chicago suburbs, when all of this boot camp stuff is over, we'd love to host her sometime over the next months and make her a homecooked meal on some weekend when she's on leave. That offer is good for anyone else who has family members at Great Lakes as well!! We'd love to be a local surrogate family. We're a bit nutty, but fun to be around:).

OH, THANK YOU!! I would totally do the same thing! She will be doing Advance Electronics/Computer Field.

Just the thought of the offer makes such a difference.  I know she is doing fine and she said Boot Camp is just like school only she can't go home.  We got a call on Christmas and my heart just melted when I heard her voice.

You are a wonderful person and amazing family!

Hi! You mentioned Northern Ca.? We lived in Middletown  Ca. for 10 years. My son has the same rating as your daughter! So you got a call on Christmas! I was hoping for one too. I guess you lucked out!

Hi everybody!

I was talking to my oldest son earlier and asking some questions about the likelihood of our recruits knowing each other. He said there were 88 recruits in his division when he went through boot camp, and there are generally always at least 80 or more . He said that everyone might not get the chance to personally know one another really well, but everyone knows everybody else's name and who they are by some point. I am going to tell my son to be on the lookout! There's no better conversation starter than "...ummm, my mom said I should talk to you..."

Hi Suzi,

Quick question: are we in week 2 or week 3. I don't know whether or not to count P -Days.

Dawn

That's a good question---I don't know. Can someone else answer that? Or maybe the Boot Camp Forum can answer that.
