OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

The PFA is their timed run, push-ups and sit-ups test, they have to pass this a final time before going into Batlle Stations

New Nuke Mom: Thank you:)

Is it the PFA that he is so worried about? Did he pass his 2nd one? If he does not pass the final time then you will get a scripted phone call telling you not to come, that call would be before his scheduled Battle Stations date, he can't go through Battle Stations if they didn't pass their fonal PFA, so you would get that call before your flight..sorry that he is extra worried about that.

I believe it's their last physical fitness assessment to proceed to BS. And then to PIR. The "what ifs" do keep running through my head but as I've read here a lot "no news is good news" so I'm holding onto that! :)

NewNukeMom, the calls don't start until 2 or after, when my son went through, we received our call after 5 on Thursday, we were on our way to the meet and greet...sorry.

Hi , Good Morning All!

Hello New Nuke Mom, Same here, I'm worried too, what if.....? I'm planning to leave on Thu. afternoon . By the way, What is PFA mean? I'm lost here:)

Good morning, question for some of the veterans on the site..... I think I read that some of the "I'm a Sailor" calls could be on Thursday morning before Friday's PIR. I'm planning on flying in from the West Coast on Thursday and was wondering if we would know before then if our SR would not be going through PIR, I.e. If they did not pass their PAF, etc.? I am trying to think positive but I know my SR is worried about that from reading his very recent letter.

So glad that you had no problem with cancelling, Tay.

Good Morning All !

Tay, so very sorry about that.....stress fractures are so very common in Bootcamp.  They take a while to heal, but then most resume training and graduate in a later PIR group.  Hoping that you were booked on Southwest so there is no change fee for you!  Hotels should not be a problem to cancel/change.
