Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

There are people in this Friday's PIR group who are posting that because of weather issues and cancelled flights, they will not be able to get to PIR So very sad....

... most airlines will not refund your money on a ticket if your SR's PIR date is cancelled (that happens if all final tests are not passed by Wed of PIR week, and therefore they can't do BattleStations and graduate). Usually refunds are related to medical situations.

Stace: Did you read the reasons that would qualify you to change the date with no further fee? Sometimes they are pretty strict.

Dede: Correct, those in SIQ status usually do not get to call with the division....they are to stay in their racks.

Refundable tickets are very expensive! Better to compare with ticket cost plus change fee since that still may be cheaper than refundable....or....book on Southwest where there is no change fee and 2 bags check for free. Southwest flies into both Chicago-Midway and Milwaukee. Milwaukee is closer than Midway...only about a 45 min drive to GL. Midway is over an hour drive, depending on traffic.

I did hotel and flight through expedia. You can pay an additional fee incase you need to change the date, which I did.

Please remember, when purchasing plane tickets, make sure you get tickets that are refundable, just in case!

Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of RTC. When my daughter was there, last year, she had fractured her ankle on her final PFA and we didn't get the call until the night before grad that she wouldn't be graduating with her division. Her accident had happened almost 2 weeks before. She ended up in RCU for another 2 months before she healed and finished her requirements to become a sailor. Happy to say she's now an IT in Norfolk.

kkjetz, my SR was on SIQ and did not call. I do not know whether that is the norm but I am assuming so since they have to go to a call center and that would go against orders to stay in. He just wrote letters when he could not work out and I found out that way. he eventually called though and told me about it. I hope this helps! :)
