OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Staci, What format are your pictures in, are they .jpg or something else?

Comment by diannep on January 17, 2014 at 6:23pm

Stace:  Hmmm.....could it be the size or format of the picture?  I'm no IT expert so not really sure.  However, at the bottom of the page, you will see the prompt for Navy for Moms Admin.  Maybe you can contact "Tiffany" through that and see if she has a suggestion?  Or maybe use the Report an Issue prompt there?

brandi:  Here are the hotels that have received good reviews on here from past PIR groups:

Navy Lodge Great Lakes (book in your SR's name)

Springhill Suites

Courtyard Inn

Residence Inn

Holiday Inn Express

Navy Lodge is about a mile from RTC.  Recently renovated...good rates.  Just make sure to book in your SR's name

The other hotels are all close together, about 4-5 miles from RTC, near Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before PIR for all of you.  We stayed at Residence and enjoyed it.  Be sure to call the hotels directly and ask them for the Navy Graduation rate.  Compare with any other discount rates you are entitled to (we used AAA discount when up there)  All of these hotels use the area shuttle service for PIR (book departure time when you check in) or you can use Sarge's shuttle service....same price....$3/pp each way, and yes, your sailor can return with you if not staying in GL for A School (those sailors move over to that base shortly after PIR and you pick them up over there later in the day).

Hope this helps!
